With peace and love, will you all sod off!
Oh come on! stop that! Waht do you think he is? a machinne workin for you??? He’s just a f***n good musician, and thats what he’s suposed to do: GOOD MUSIC! And he’s doing it! so if he doesn’t want to sign any more stuff, well, he wont do it, and that’s right! Go Ringo, your loyal fans are still here!Peace and Love
Hi, oh well .. i’m gonna keep noodling him, yeh he’s all the things you mentiioned above, but he cant have his cake and eat it too, if he’s gonna stay in the biz and sell himself as a working current artist then he’s gonna have to wear all the trappings that come with it, he does not have a choice unless he retires and hides, and besides the guy may be a music legend, that does not make him imune from being a bit a drop kick quite often, i know of far more bad fan stories of Ringo than i do good.
Don’t stick a Sharpie in between my fingers- or else it’ll be on, it’ll be on like Donkey Kong.
The Beatles got 100 times more fan mail, autograph seekers, screaming, idolization, people pulling from all directions wanting a piece of them.
George more or less retired from the business to get away from it. John hated being in the Beatles because of the idolization and constant attention (okay, he hated it on Tuesdays and when he had a hangover). Paul even tells a fan or two to f**k off every once and a while when he is trying to have dinner.
You can be a drummer, singer, writer, recording artist without signing fan mail. This all started when he saw something he had signed almost immediately turn up on ebay.
He should have just said the hell with it and started throwing the stuff out.
I’ll still buy his albums (they are a lot better than a Ringo album should be).
And speaking of John, he signed autographs right up until the end, didn’t he. There’s a photo of it.
Lets face it,even though ringo is loveable he can be a dill,he used to hang out with keith moon,i don’t care whether he signs autographs or not but his peace and love impersination of john is funny, particuarly when he is telling people to sod off,but he definetly is a funny man without meaning to be.If he wants to retire from ansewering letters thats fine,he is 68 years old,but telling people to piss off with peace and love is a mixed message. He is an amazing character Ringo,I’m a part time cartoonist and he is fun to draw,he has a voice rich with character as well.Ringo joining the beatles was the icing on the cake.
I don’t think he’s a fuckin* great musician…my opinion
Okay, Pete. We know that’s you. Let it go.
My example of his best drumming is from Tomorrow Never Knows.
He kept up with Lennon and McCartney. He had to be great. My opinion.
Well, my opinion is that he’s He’s just a f***n good musician, apart from my opinion, it’s obvious that there are a lot of FACTS, that makes clear that he really is great (fuckin good musician, tremendous artist…); Debjorgo can say: TNK, I can say “Rain”, others may say: “A Day In The Life”, or (as Debjorgo said) being the Beatles drummer… I think those are facts.Anyway, i’d like to say, think i can see Tammy’s point, BUT i disagree. I think he DO have a choice and its respectable. Have you ever tried to send Paul a Photo for him to sign it and send it back? And if so, does everybody can do it? No. And we don’t bother because he’s Paul. And because Ringo had been just a good guy all those years, and now is tired, we hate him. I also think the e-bay thing is more than understandable, isn’t it?
Finally; Tammy; can you be a little bit more specific about: “i know of far more bad fan stories of Ringo than i do good”???? that hurts!! no, serious, I don’t know about that.
For me Ringo IS the best rock drummer ever and his playing on ‘She said she said’ bares that out, but i cant help but find him a bit ‘unpalatable’, his ego and rudeness.
I dont want to get all negative and go into specific stories, and i dont dislike him that much, i just like to poke a little fun at the Fabs every now and then, especially when they deserve it, they are human after all.
Yap, they are human… even if it’s hard to believe.
Thanks for this blog Tammy, it really rocks!
well, sorry to dissapoint you guys but Ringo is not the best rock drummer ever, and this is not my opinion it is just a matter of fact. There is life outside the beatles world you know: John Bonham is obviously better drummer than Ringo.
Hi, not it’s not a fact, it’s an opinion.
And my opinion as a proffessional drummer is that no one ever has ‘played’ a song like Ringo, see ‘She said she said’.
Now in my ‘opinion’ Bonham was nothing more than a flailing noise maker
And how very dare you make me defend Ringo when i was doing such a good job doing otherwise
Bonham’s style is more showy, “turn the spotlight on and impress us”. Ringo could probably play Bonham’s parts easier than Bonham could play Ringo’s, with all the runs and fills that Ringo puts in.
Lennon was impressed when Ringo would sit in with the Beatles and they would do Chuck Berry’s Rock and Roll Music. Ringo would play all of the styles that the song mentions, “Don’t care to hear ‘em play the tango. I’m in no mood to dig a mambo, It’s way too early for the congo, So keep a – rockin’ that piano”.
Don’t get me wrong, Zep rocked. And didn’t Zak sit in with Zeppelin for awhile?
a drummer’s job is too play what fits for a particular song. whether bonham was a technically better drummer or not is irrelevant, because he would not have fit in musically on lennon-mac songs as ringo did. not even close. and i say that as a fan of bonham.
Every time I see your pen it remindsme of things ending up on EbayNow all you want is an AutographAnd I realize I’m gonna tell you to Sod Off
Ringo is ringo, one of a kind, pete best wasn’t even second best,Ringo ended the song,he never drew it out like the show off drummers. His drumming on rain is great. He has a distinctive voice.please sign your autograph for me old man.If you’d rather nap instead i understand.
it just seems a bit rich that of all the beatles the one in the background who had the least input of the four into the writing and arranging of the songs and of having the least star quality was the 1st one who decided he was bigger than evryone else and make the ridicululous decision that he wldnt sign autographs for the fans… john paul and george could have still been megabig with any decent drummer….now watch all the dead fish come to the surface…..I love the beatles just dnt like idiotic behavior
