Is this Brian’s store Nems ?

  2. Kwai Chang says:

    @alex of da Bronx…
    I’m guessing that’s a good guess.
What other store would have those cool promo 8X10′s on the wall(far right)? Damn! I wish we could see more of that Beatles ‘display’. Is that an official Parlophone store display? I can’t tell if it’s made of promo pictures or sheet music…or it might be a poster. But, it could be the very first In-store advert/promo display…completely homemade by store staff from Brian’s own glossies. If there is only two singles out, then it is doubtful that any printed promotional support was being paid for by EMI.
If that scenario is at all similar to what’s in the picture, then we see the visionary side of Brian was completely hip to the potential energy contained within the band. Big thinking little manager…with a retail laboratory. Rock and roll is a noble metal. So, can two 45 releases create a spark?
Let’s just say NOBODY thinks of polyvinyl chloride as fissile material.
Critical mass that you can dance to.
A magical photograph. Who took it?

  3. I’m pretty sure it is NEMS, tho I await the final word from the mighty Datina.

Sorry for the Typo, it’s 24 January 1963

  6. mcarp555 says:

Aahhhh, so that was Brian’s plan all along – in-store entertainment!

we gotta move those microwave ovens—we gotta move those colour TV’s–that ain’t workin’—that’s the way you do it—-money for nothing –and your chicks for free .

  8. I have a similar (color!) photo somewhere of Gerry and the Pacemakers making a similar stairway appearance to promote what I’d assume was “How Do You Do It?”

Dear Brian certainly had an eye for design, not to mention presentation:

He certainly did a phenomenal job “window-dressing” The Beatles for the world !

  9. Blue Black Hussar says:

Yes, the photo was taken in NEMS.

  10. Kwai Chang says:

I wonder if any songs were performed.
    Two acoustics, snare, unplugged bass
    And lots of harmony vocals…
    (it’s a possibility)
Was this a Dezo Hofmann session?
And, why isn’t the store filled with all those Cavernites who would later snivel something about betrayal and how fame has changed them?
