Yet another J&Y photo i’d never seen before. Thanks for posting!

  3. Ronnie says:

I always loved how their hands fit together perfectly despite the difference in height.

  4. kavada says:

I like this photo! It is taken the same day like the pictures on the album Double Fantasy?

  5. henry says:

to kavada:for the clothes they wearing it seems it’s the same day

I’ve been struggling with why I don’t like this photo AT ALL and I finally realized why. John doesn’t look like John here. He looks like that bizarre actor Andy Dick in this photo. It’s the hair, and his face looks too thin.

  7. Jennifer says:

Thank you very much for sharing this, I had never seen this picture before and I think it is very beautiful. : )

  8. Great phot. Another I haven’t seen before. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Jody says:

Love this one and love how they look.
Not to belabor this, but I think John looks uber-healthy in 1980, not too thin at all. A very handsome man and beautiful inter-racial couple.

I guess many post-ers above are somewhere where it is already 1980.
In the US, not yet. I know we will all remember John’s singular spirit in our own ways 12/8 – as we do every day.

  10. Jody says:

Correction: “Many post-ers are somewhere where it is already 12/8….”

  11. Shirley Tulloch says:

Beautiful photo, looks like it was just taken a few days ago or something…

  12. Steve in the Bronx says:

So many New Yorkers don’t take advantage of Central Park. John and Yoko seemed to love it.

  13. Chris says:

This is most definitely from the same photo session as the Double Fantasy photo shoot… in my humble opinion.
Yes, John looked super thin. But he still looked cool. I remember I was as thin as he was back in 1980. I was 20. And everyone told me that I was too skinny. You know what? I loved being that skinny. I miss those days.

  14. Chris says:

One more thing. It is thought that John Lennon was 5 feet 11 inches. I find that hard to believe. I am 5 feet eleven inches. I stood next to Yoko in front of the Dakota back in 1983. She is a very very petite woman. I was much taller than her. John does not look all that much taller than Yoko. Does anyone know John’s true height? I have also observed that many talented musician are not tall people! Have you found that?

  15. Tammy says:

This IS the same day as the Double Fantasy cover photo, as far as we can tell .. and some of us DOI know (you know who you are you buggers heh) Kishin Shinoyama photographed John and Yoko on two seperate days, both days John was dressed similar, except on the above day he was wearing his black Rolling Stones ‘Reception’ t shirt, the other day he wore a black collared shirt.

  16. Cara says:

Wow, an exceptional shot. @Chris– Yoko is wearing heels in this photo, so she looks a bit taller than she is. I know the “official” height for John was 5’11″, but I always thought he and Paul were more like 5’10″ (judging by photos of them with other people and by Paul’s height today, which seems 5’9″ish). I also reckon George was 5’9″, and Ringo 5’6″ or 5’7″…. again, not the “official” heights, just my observation.

  17. stephanie says:

    lovely photo. not seen before.

@Jody: I agree with you, John looks uber healthy. I dont buy the “too skninny” rubbish.

Tammy, thanks for posting such beautiful and rare John images, on this sad day.

  18. lennon says:

John’s true peak height barefoot was probably about 5′ 9.5,” just a bit shorter than Paul. When this photo was taken he was probably about 135lbs. Maybe 10-15 lbs underweight for his size. I don’t think he was unhealthy per se — he liked to walk about and visit Cafe LaFortuna and eat raw fish (macrobiotic). So he tried to eat lean foods and exercise. But he also smoked Gitanes. Does anyone know how much he smoked a day? Was he smoking a pack or more daily? If anything, he smoking habit was probably far more unhealthy than being 10 pounds underweight and having a slight body image problem, leading him to ration his intake.

  19. Guus says:

Wonderful picture, thanks for posting and sharing.
John looks happy and so young here.

  20. Great picture – in fact, one of my favourites of John and Yoko in 1980.
I’ve seen this in b&w in the book ‘The Beatles: after the break-up, 1970-2000′ by Keith Badman – published in 1999 for anyone interested.

Although, I do think John looks extremely thin and rather unhealthy.

Responding to ‘Lennon’ above, I would say that John probably smoked 30 to 40 Gitane cigarettes a day??

    Again, thanks for the post.
