Is Paul holding a model Yellow Submarine there..? I’m guessing this is the U.S tour of ’66 (Bel Air maybe..?), The Yellow Sub/Eleanor Rigby single was released around this time so could be a promo item…!

  2. Lizzie says:

    Hi JD, this looks hand made – I don’t think it’s a promo item…

    “Short shorts,
    long shadows,
    ice bucket submarines…”

    Paul doubles for Sean Connery(007)
in the hotel scene where Pussy Galore breaks the piñata and candy gets all over her bikini…

  4. Jorge says:

A Yellow piñata is what it resembles! Ha ha

  5. Kwai Chang says:

    If that is a piñata,
then, I’m going to refrain from saying Pussy Galore in Spanish.
(Oye, Pablo…no te bajas al charco?)

  6. Kwai Chang says:

Basically…the submarine in Paul’s hands DOES heavily resemble the submarine caricature on the REVOLVER (“Out Now!”) promo poster…so if this is L.A., then we might be at Alan Livingston’s house during a Capitol funded private shwimdig…

My vote for Tammy’s best caption of 2014!

    Submarine SuperMysteries:
Did you know that a periscope with a slight bend to the right means that the submarine is left-handed?!?!?

    I agree with you, though.
Tammy’s caption(s) are inspirational to me
and they always make me want to smoke marijuana and comment more and more and again and again and over and over…

Judging by Paul’s haircut, it looks more to me like the LA Capitol Records visit June 1968 – unless someone knows better

  10. Kwai Chang says:

    @A Car And A Room And A Room And A Room…
Paul looked pretty flabby on Mad Day Out…but, not here. Also, his face looks like it’s still on the ‘auto-no-smile’ reflex mode that became standard(and obvious) on all pre-dentist photos. Lastly, the submarine…clearly vintage REVOLVER. If this is 1968, the graphics for ANY submarine reference should have been updated by now…especially, since the movie will be released in July…
So, I still think it might be 1966…

Cara, I agree, contender for best caption.

  12. There are more of these in a US fan mag from 1967 (which I’ve forwarded to Miss Tammy for deliberation)… so it’s not ’68.

  13. A Car And A Room And A Room And A Room says:

Ok thanks for the confirmation, kenwoodlennon

  14. Kenny Lenwood has sent some pics, alas they show Paul underwater with his shorts stuck even tighter to his ass and periscopical region, I must post them, but alas I’ve become quite unnaturally attached to them, some may say in a somewhat slightly unnatural way . . the forced meeting between man and a Jpg in the digital world, quite obtuse really.

  15. Kwai Chang says:

If possible…could you reveal which magazine. Very curious…

  16. Sara S. says:

These photos belong to Gina Smith and can be found in Chuck Gunderson’s amazing new books, “Some Fun Tonight.” They were taken between August 26-28, 1966 at the house in Bel-Air during the 1966 tour. Photos can be seen in Datebook magazine and also in a really odd book about alien invasions and the Beatles. I have a lot of photos from this day, and I always believed that the Yellow sub was a gift from a fan. It can be seen floating around in the pool in many of the photos.

  17. Cara says:

Sara for the win! Nice detective work by all.

Just a little technical note, from a native Hollywoodian: The 1966 house was technically in Hollywood. People always say Bel Air or Bev Hills, but it was actually on the hipper side of the 323/310 divide. (Back then it was all 213, though…)

  18. Kwai Chang says:

    @Sara S…
A thousand thanks for that great info.
(You can’t fool me…Super Sara is really your name)

Yeah, the 661 messed everything up
(I lived in Woodland Hills at the time)

  19. A Car And A Room And A Room And A Room says:

    Thanks for confirming, Sara

  20. Paul did have a touch of the sixty sixes about him in sixty eight didn’t he.

  21. Ken Wood says:

Scenes around the pool from this stay are seen in Anthology too – with added animation from Yellow Submarine and I might misremember that but I think it also included sight of the this paper submarine (not seen in the stills I am linking to here):

  22. Kwai Chang says:

    Thanks! Very nice link…

  23. Lizzie says:

Thanks to all for the info! I am so old I actually bought that magazine when it came out – God knows where it is now…
