Oh how I wish I got to see one of those shows! I begged my family to let me go but noooooooo!!! IT REALLY FRUSTRATES ME ALL THESE YEARS LATER!
I really like George’s pants!
Hmm. I’d posted a comment about George’s pants and it seems to be missing. What happened? Anyway, those pants show that even George’s fashion sense took a vacation sometimes.
Sorry if comments sometimes disappear, so many come through here now, some fall through the cracks, or get deleted by mistake as spam.
What are you talking about Louise, Those Plaids were the rage at that time. I was in 9th grade and believe me, everyone had a pair and wore them.
Ah, the ill-faited 74′ tour. George had a terrible case of lyrringitis (?) and really suffered some bad reviews. Did you guys read the first May Pang bk. ? Apparently John was around and could’ve helped George out but didn’t go on stage, so that night John and May go to George’s hotel rm, George, already in a foul mood, yells to John ” I did everything for you John, I sided with you on everything at Apple, played on your records, and this is how you pay me back ? I want to see your eyes John” At which he reaches over and pulls John’s dark glasses off and reiterates the same thing while looking in John’s eyes. John, never says a word and allows George to get it out of his system.
At least Billy never recorded a song called
Will It Go Round In Checkers
(will it fly high like a bird up in the ska)
@bluesdudes – I remember reading about that. I read that George snatched off John’s glasses but John did nothing because he said, George was hurting. I did not quite understand why George was hurting but now it makes sense. I believe George was the passive type who let things build up until he exploded. Thanks for the info.
Bluesdude, I remember the story also from May’s book. Do you know if this is the last time they spoke or saw one another ?
I can understand George’s point but John’s self esteem was not too high at this point also, the proof is in his comments about showing up at Elton John’s show at the garden which was the same year and only as a guest star not out of support. A lot of insecurity with John at that point . There was so much greatness that I feel could have been harnessed.
George was also pissed at John for not showing at the Bangla Desh concert cause Yoko was not invited to play.
After it is all said and done it would have been nice to have John and George one last time.
I remember George played ” In My Life ” at those shows also.
I just discovered yesterday that Billy’s afro was a wig. But, wow, what a wig!
