Try checking out Although I’m not sure of the cost, they have a pair of men’s plastic frames called Cleartone. They are very similar to the ones above & look to be a match for the clear plastic/blue tinted glasses John wore in some of the photos taken in Japan during the late 70’s. I hope that this is helpful to you! Good luck!

I did see glasses that looked very similar to these at the retail store. However, they were for woman. :(

    A close approximation ..

However, John’s glasses were a lot more exclusive and are no longer made ..

“Mayfair” model sunglasses produced by Japanese designer Hakusan, which John purchased on a trip to Japan in 1979. I think the color he preferred was “Honey Tortoise.” Here’s a link to the Japanese sunglasses manufacturer web site, but I don’t think they currently produce this model:

These look like the same style of glasses that Sean Lennon tends to wear now.

I bought of pair of these sunglasses from (cheap at $30) that look a lot like John’s from 1980; the only drawback is that they are a smaller frame, but they look cool nonetheless.

recently purchased an EXACT replica pair of these ultra cool glasses through a web site called “ROCK FRAMES” and couldn’t be happier. I have been looking for these frames for 30 years. Around 200 american dollars. Very worth it. High quality merchandise and exactly like John’s from 1980.

If you have trouble finding Rock Frames try You won’t be disappointed.

  10. Gareth says:

Hakusan still make the Mayfair that’s true, but they now use a different factory to produce them and the design is now different to the pairs that Lennon purchased in the 70s, especially the nose pads. Lennon’s model didn’t have replaceable nose pads and they were moulded into the frame instead. I think that if you are looking for something Lennon wore back then, then is the best option.

i’m telling you the ones i bought are exactly like john’s 1980
