Yoko is in Sydney, and of course Miss Tammy has been invited to all sorts of esoteric Ono events. Last Thursday I had the pleasure of getting to chat with Yoko, as with every other time i’ve met her she showed herself to be polite, kind, funny and welcoming.
Yesterday was an Onopolooza, Yoko done her thing, all over the Sydney Opera House, and it was amazing. She opened with a ten minute vocalization that had the audience enthralled and moved, i never realized the power and theatre of Yoko’s vocalizations, but it was breathtaking, and took one through a range of emotions. Pretty cool to also see bagism explained, and demonstrated.
Yoko’s exhibition ‘War is over’ is at the Sydney MCA until Feb 23rd.
Also, on the new album there is a hidden track – “Scared” – that seems to be specifically about Nancy. It’s McCartney admitting that he’s frightened to say he loves her.
“Well, I’m just like anybody else, man! You know? You get those moments. I don’t normally write about them; but it’s a good thing to use. I was feeling it, as well. I was newly in love with Nancy, and I was finding it a little difficult to say, ‘I love you.’ Number one, I’m a guy, and that’s a big excuse, I know, but it is a bit true to form… That song is basically about she and I, and the middle eight is about when we met. And we did exactly as I say in the song, we welled up.”
They met in a surf shop in Long Island: McCartney was on holiday, cycling around, looking for sun cream. The reason they both had tears in their eyes was that Nancy had known Linda, Paul’s first wife.
“Out of the blue, I met this girl and we started talking and she happened to say, ‘I knew Linda.’ So that was emotional. I wouldn’t meet, typically, many people who knew Linda, and who knew her during her cancer treatment – and Nancy did. She’s a cancer survivor herself. So it got very deep, very quickly, and it was like, ‘What the hell was that?’ And then I ran into her a couple of more times on the holiday, and we got to know each other and started dating. So the song is about that, about this depth of emotion, of feeling – but totally being scared to say or do anything about it. Like a tongue-tied teenager.”
Beatle Photo Blog devotee, pen pal seeker from The Beatle Book and all round nice guy Mark Lewisohn has this week launched the first volume of his Beatle meister work, the cats whiskers of Beatle biographies ‘All these years’.
Apart from moistening a finger to drag across my computer screen, to turn the pages on the Amazon.com preview, i haven’t yet had the chance to read it (who do you have to sleep with in Australia to get a preview copy?).
Miss Tammy is holding out for the mega expanded edition that is being issued soon after, with some things in life size does matter, so i must resist the urge for instant gratification, and hold out for the big pay off. The suspense is killing me .. i hope it lasts.
The trade edition is here now, all 960 scintilating and riveting pages. This is a must purchase situation, i’ve heard nothing but raves, and we all know with Mark the detail will be correct and amazing.

Miss Tammy last week had the pleasure (doesn’t everyone?) of seeing Ringo Starr in concert in Melbourne, it’s always a treat seeing a Beatle, and this was my first time seeing Ringo. I was able to hide upon my person, and sneak in my box brownie camera, i managed to reel off a few photo’s of everyones favorite stick wielder. I’m breaking my own rules here by posting ‘on stage’ photo’s, but i figure this is a good enough reason for an exception. Miss Tammy would like to say a special hello to all the readers of the blog at the concert who recognised me, and came up and said hello. It was great getting to meet some of you
