Another photo taken by my friend Michel. John is pointing at a badge with an old picture of himself that Michel is wearing.

  2. Ishie says:

I love this ‘candid’ of John. John’s “1980” look had an attractive, relaxing appeal.
Thanks for sharing this with us!

  3. ALEX OF BRONX says:

Neat story Pete, it was so great when he was roving around NYC back in the day.
    We blew it.

    Taken on October 4, 1980.

Thank you Miss Sara, he wore this jacket the day after his birthday, i love how he rotated his clothes over a couple of weeks, 1980 highlights this :-)

Is that a Michele Senecal photo? I’m an old friend of his and have quite a few shots that he took of John & Yoko that summer and fall. I’ve passed a few on to Tammy also. Great shot of John. God how he is missed.

  10. Pete F. says:

Yes it is Dave. He made weekend trips down to the Dakota from Montreal often enough that John started greeting him by name. I believe the same day this pic was taken, J&Y posed for a photo with him. On a later trip to NYC, Michel got a print of that picture autographed.

  11. Delaware Dave says:

    Hi Pete
Yes, I have seen those shots, years ago Michele gave me about 15 of his best shots with John and Yoko. Some appeared in the “Summer of 1980” book published in the 80’s. Are you in contact with Michele? I have lost all his info and would love to touch base with him. His shot of him with John & Yoko at the Hit Factory was taken by david geffen, I believe. have you ever seen it?

  12. Pete F. says:

Hi Dave, yes that’s the same photo he got autographed and yes, it was taken by David Geffen. Based on John’s jacket and the bag over his right shoulder in this thread’s pic, I believe that both photos were taken the same day. Then again, as others have mentioned, he wore the same jacket on a few occasions at the time so I can’t be really sure. He’s travelling in India right now with limited contact but let me see what I can do. Cheers!

Thanks Pete, very much appreciated. If his memory fails him, I can email you a picture or two that Michele took of me and our band at the Beatles conventin in NYC he used to hang out taking pictures in 1980, 1981. He took quite a few shots of us, then sent them all to us, as he used to do with John & Yoko. A great guy, very humble. Let me know how you make out, and if you need any further info from me.

Small world Dave, maybe you & I have met. I went to the NYC Beatlefest with Michel in March of 1981. Before John was murdered, we had planned to go to the next NY Fest & he suggested we could stop at the Dakota and if we were lucky he could introduce me to John. What a trip that would have been, meeting John Lennon! But after Dec. 8 everything changed of course. We still went to the Beatlefest but the mood was surreal. We were devastated but we saw a lot of people who didn’t seem to be affected in the least, and then others who had a dazed look in their eyes, obviously still in shock over the recent horror, like we were. Who would kill a Beatle?…. Anyway, throughout the weekend we met a few interesting folks like Paul Goresh, Fred Seaman, Sid Bernstein & Alf Bicknell. We saw several tribute bands at the convention, maybe you were in one of them? Michel took tons of photographs all the time, as he still does today. We both bought boxfulls of bootlegs (remember this was WAY before the internet and bit torrents) and then took the train back to Montreal. Seems life a lifetime ago now…

You can email me at pete66/at/videotron/dot/ca I will pass on any info you send and it will be up to him to respond, if he chooses to.

Pete! Yes, I was there and that was the second Beatlefest I was at with Michele! That was the Fest where he sold my friend and I some great shots of John & Yoko, but then just gave us a bunch more. What a great guy. I’m going to dig out some pictures from that weekend, scan them and send them to you via email, ok? Maybe you will remember, or not. It was now 32 years ago- yikes! I have been to every Beatlefest since 1979, first in NYC and then since 1980 at the Meadolands in New Jersey. Do you remember – or still have – the memorial booklet with poems they gave out at that 1981 Beatlefest? Two of my poems were published in there, an honor I still cherish to this day. I can tell you this, I went to that Fest in a complete daze; I was 20 years old at the time, and could not rationilize Johns death- still cant. I have met Fred and Paul Goresh, who I dont think ever got over being the guy to take the last pictures of John alive. What a shame, a burden for him. Anyway, I will write you via email soon. Thanks for your great response. Dave
