I remember those standups for “Stop and Smell the Roses”. I wanted one SOO bad! I did nick a similar one of Paul for “Tug of War” from a Sears in Orlando.

Nice photos, Ms Tammy. Never seen them. I know this album (S&STR) (1981) was hated by almost everybody. It became a “thing” to laugh at Ringo’s albums. But it was MY secret guilty pleasure. I liked it. Sure, it was patchy, but had some good songs. I especially liked Wrack My Brain, George’s contribution, a wonderful, whimsical pop gem with a very funny promo video. And I quite like Paul’s two songs, Attention, and Private Property.

Ringo’s dedication of the album “to my three brothers”, coming less than a year after we lost John, was very poignant, and sad.

I was in the studio audience the following year (1982) when Ringo was interviewed by Michael Parkinson at Channel Ten here in Sydney. Ringo was asked about the album and one fan called out that he loved the album, (wished that had been me, but I was too shy) , and I remember Ringo saying “well you must have been the only person in the world to buy it”.

Guilty pleasuring is what this blog is all about, my guilty pleasure is ‘Rotogravure’. ‘Stop’ has some great songs on it, the three you mentioned and . . ummmm :-)

I loved that album! “Dead Giveaway”, the song he wrote with Ron Wood, is great! Also liked Paul’s song “Attention” (he couldn’t help writing a good hook!)… wasn’t Ringo’s most embarrassing album, not by a longshot!
