I always got the impression that John’s hair was dark brown. Didn’t realize how light is really was. All in all that’s a nice picture of him!

  2. Nick says:

From some recent pictures I’ve seen, he had more of red highlights than brown. Hmmm.

  3. Lizzie says:

hi joy, john’s hair was quite fair, not dark brown. his thick beard like in 1969 had red highlights.

  5. Nick says:

Wow! Great news, Lizzie! Best of luck to you on your travels!

  6. Imagine says:

John almost looks like he has light blondish hair … Very nice pics from late ’76 or early ’77.

  7. Jennifer says:

Thank you very much for sharing these. : )

  8. A Different Chris says:

John certainly took care of his fans.

  9. Cara says:

Yes, he did, Chris. The boys always remembered what it was like to be fans themselves. As for his hair, Lizzie would know best… but I’ve read many accounts of people who met him being surprised just how much red there was in his hair.

  10. Lordcat says:

I’m sure John’s hair must of somehow changed colour during the 70’s..cos these comments over John’s hair being fair/reddish are always centered on the late 70’s/1980 pics.Could be that by that time most of the pics were colour though and colour film processing and film types can give diferent hues…

  11. Ishie says:

Lizzie … Good for you! Have a wonderful time!

  12. lizzie says:

thanks ishie! i’ll be posting pix on my facebook page. xx (can you believe it’s sooo hot here i felt a little light headed a while ago? had to take another shower, turn on the ac and drink lots of water!)

  13. Nick says:

Stay hydrated, Lizzie! We don’t want you to get dizzy….:)

  14. Cara says:

@Lordcat ~ The stories I’ve heard cover the ’60s and ’70s. One that I recall was about a teenaged boy who got the opportunity to attend a meet & greet in 1964.

  15. Jameseyboy says:

Im always curious how many of the early days photos appear to show John with dark hair?I mean its obvious it snt from the more natural pictures but how did they achieve that look?perhaps Black and white photography in those days just lent itself to that shading although Ive seen black and white early shots of Elvis and he also had fair hair, his photos without him dying prove this too!So my question would be if John maybe dyed his hair at certain periods for what ever asthetic reason? Its possible but very un John like, just wondering.

  16. Since 1963 says:

Lizzie, congratulations on your trip. I’m quite jealous. :) Can’t wait to read all about it. Have a great time and be safe.

Jameseyboy, it would not surprise me if John put a little darkener in his hair to fit Brian’s “boy band mold”. Ringo darkened his gray streak, no?
Remember that during the Brian years it was all about getting rich quick, and changing one’s appearance to achieve this was a “neccessary evil”, i.e. shortish hair cuts, no sidies, suits, etc.
Considering that John’s hair seems lighter in “before and after Brian” pictures, I am almost convinced there was some manipulation going on. Or, I just might be out on a bike here.

    Lizzie, what do you think?

  17. j0j0 says:

    Only his hair dresser knows:)

  18. Erin says:

Actually, it’s got almost an auburn tint to it. And when Paul met him, he referred to John’s hair as kind of “curly, strawberry blonde” so he was always more red than you’d think. Paul and George were very dark brown, and Ringo leaned more toward a mousy/dark brown, too. John’s hair was a perfect match for his eyes and skintone. I wish I had that color of hair!
