It sure looks like he’s smitten with her. Even though I don’t have any of her recordings with the exception of
‘THOSE WERE THE DAYS’ did she have or still have a career?

Is this the guitar that George purchased for her?

A beautiful couple if you ask me. Sometimes I wonder if they had something…

I think Paul had a mentor view of Mary, but never any romantic interest.

Joy – Mary had a short, but very successful career. She had recorded on a small label before Paul and Apple, but ‘TWTD’ launched her. Paul seemed to see her as a singer like Cilla or Dusty, but she was really a folkie at heart. Her ’72 Apple album ‘Earth Song/Ocean Song’ is widely hailed as one of the greatest folk albums ever (and it really is!). Shortly after it came out, she married her producer, Tony Visconti, and mostly left the biz to have a family. She’s now long divorced from Tony and had an album out a few years back, but it didn’t draw much interest.

Mary also had another Top 40 hit with “GoodBye” in 1969. It was written by Paul. Paul even has production credit on the picture sleeve. There are other photos of Paul and Mary together from this day and the U.K. D.J. Pete Brady is with them. He is probably just out of sight in these photos. Another photo from this day made the cover of “FLIP” Magazine in 1969.

I don’t think there was ever anything other than a professional relationship between them. I heard at the time that her mother was always with her.

FYI: Tony Visconti later married May Pang, John Lennon’s mistress, after the divorce from Mary Hopkin. He had 2 kids with her.

Somewhere on this blog I’ve posted a photo of Paul, Linda and Mary together in 1988. I think that is the most recent photo we have of them together.
