this is the first photo i ever took of john, in february 1967, at the parking lot of emi studios on abbey road. i’ll find the date and post it here soon. the girl on the left is barbara, a british john fan, and behind john is carol, a british george fan. i can’t remember who the blonde girl on the right is but she is almost touching his hand!!!

  2. Michael says:

Fantastic, Lizzie! Thanks for sharing it. I always dug that “Sword Swallower” button John wore during this period.

  3. ALEX OF BRONX says:

Lizzie, I can listen to your stories all day.

  4. Kwai Chang says:

I knew you were involved in this pic…
that’s why I refused to comment before you…
    what a champ…(you are)
“I got the pic but I missed the autograph…
I got the autograph but I missed the pic…”
    decisions, decisions…
we have all been blessed over that missing John signature!
Well, I hope your SFF picture sleeve has all four…
    not a bad beginning…
    MAGIC is real…
and everything to get hung about
    (she’s almost touching his hand…
ha, ha…what were they all doing in YOUR office?)
    Thank you…
PS- the scarf thing never worked in Hollywood…
why’d they think it was ever Beatle?

It’s funny… Now a days when I see a picture of them from this era, especially one like this, I think “Lizzie” before anything else. You have become a part of my “reality” now Lizzie. Hope you’re oK with that. 😉

  6. Pete F. says:

Very cool photo Lizzie… looking forward to your book.

  7. Ishie says:

Since 1963, how right you are! I looked at the photo and thought “Lizzie” right away! Her memories of those days are interesting and offer us a “you are there” moment! Love ya Lizzie!

dear all: how lovely it is to open my macbook on this gorgeous sunny, warm morning and read all these great things you have to say about me! if you keep it up, i may be able to dump my therapist pretty soon! seriously though, it’s a huge compliment that my little stories and photos bring you so much joy. i know i’m the slowest writer in history, but i NEED to share these moments with you all. if i can bring a smile to your faces with my teenage diaries (“i love john”, “i miss him”, “i have to see him today”, bla, bla bla…) i will have accomplished my goal. i know you love the beatles – and in my particular case, john – as much as i do, and all i want is make you feel like you were there with me. and kwai – i didn’t get my picture sleeve signed. i had pepper and abbey road but i sold them years ago. i can send photos of them, if you like. even though i had many, i’m not too big on autographs – i prefer to remember what happened when i got them. in one of the albums, the actual record fell out of the cover and john picked it up for me.

  9. lizzie says:

by the way, i love you all too – you’re a part of my beatle friend family!

  10. Ishie says:

Thanks Lizzie for sharing such incredible memories with us. I enjoy the bits & pieces of your diary entries that you have shared wth us. Believe me, if I was there, my journal would read “I have to see Paul” … “He’s so cute” … The Beatles were/are a part of the fabric of who we are. They made a lasting impression on us. They continue to entertain & delight us. That is part of their allure … their magic.

ok, found the details! “friday, february 17, 1967. john arrived in the black mini cooper – LGF 696D – it was 8:00pm. i took my first photo of him. i said ‘hello john’ to him and he answered ‘hello’ – i nearly died!”. i had arrived in london on the 14th, and saw all 4 beatles and brian epstein that night (according to a letter i wrote my mother). i have to say that “i nearly died” is repeated many times in my diaries… by the way, thanks for your post, ishie.

  12. lizzie says:

kwai, you noticed that i wasn’t too thrilled that the fan on the right was almost touching john’s hand – i was just a jealous gal…

  13. Kwai Chang says:

you were most kind to allow them ‘other girls’ near him…
the coolest part is that all of that proximity never caused any grief and that alone stands as testimony that there really was a time when coolness was enough…it was ragged and naive…it was Heaven…
Lizzie…I say you have transcended the experience of experience…
and taken in much…like the waters of the Tao

  14. lizzie says:

wow, kwai, we’re getting deep now… and – silly me – i always thought it was the trousers!

  15. Kwai Chang says:

    I’m here to help…
    (just tryin’ to care)
    I couldn’t cope with such pressure…
If any of those 4 were near me…I’d RUN———–>NO KIDDING!!!

  16. Sara says:

Thanks for the date, Lizzie! I fall more and more in love with this photo every time I see it. I love reading what you put in your journals because they are things I would have said (or do say!). Anyhow…Feb 17 1967 is the date the Strawberry Fields Forever single was released, so no wonder someone got it signed. It just came out that day!

  17. A different Jennifer says:

Incredible photo! I love your stories and everything you share with us!

  18. lizzie says:

thanks sara and a different jennifer. i have this fear that people are going to find my teenage diaries silly but from what you say at least SOME people are bound to enjoy them. the rest can look at the photos!
