This has to be before Michael angered Paul by buying The Beatles catalogue before Paul had a chance to put together the money with Yoko to buy it. Paul never forgave Michael for that stab in the back, and I don’t believe they ever spoke again?

  2. BLJ says:

It is so sad because they were so close.

  3. Louise says:

Well it was a monumentally crappy thing for Michael Jackson to do. MJ was very mafia-like: “It’s nothing personal, Paul. Strictly business.”

This is one instance where the Eastmans (as Paul’s lawyer) didn’t do a very good job of representing Paul’s interests, or Paul himself ignored their advice. And from what I’ve read, Yoko wasn’t exactly working on Paul’s side in all of this. Guess we’ll never know the full truth about any of this.

I wonder what Mr. Peggy Lipton thinks of Paul…

  5. Bob says:

Yes, and I wonder where Mrs Quincy Jones was at this moment…

  6. Lee says:

Actually Quincy Jones and Paul are good friends — back then and now.

  7. Kathy says:

I remember seeing a photo of Paul and MJ from around his 89/90 tour but I dont believe for a second that he ever forgave MJ or maybe himself for not just forking up the money and buying his songs.

The version I’ve heard is that Paul knew of the Beatles’ catalog going up for sale and instead of buying it for himself only he wanted to include Yoko in the purchase out of respect for John as he wrote or cowrote many of the songs. Yoko felt that they could wait for the price to drop but Paul didn’t feel that was wise. In the meantime MJ DID come up with the winning amount and we know the rest. If thjis is the true story then Paul burned himseld trying to respect John’s memory. If he bid alone Yoko would have resented it forever. Seems like Paul was damned if he did, damned if he didn’t in this situation. Well at least Paul is still with us and sane. Can you imagine how rich he would be had he won those song rights? I can’t conceive of his wealth as it is!

    Another myth put to rest…
this is the first picture I’ve deen that shows Michael and Latoya…
I always thought they might be the same person…
I guess it’s more likely that Michael was really Dick James.

  10. BLJ says:

How ironic, I believe, Paul is rich enough now to buy the Beatles songs many times over if he wanted too. I believe Paul has put all of that behind him.

  11. stephanie says:

@markzapp, I believe your version to be accurate. @blj, Paul has always been rich enough to buy Northern Songs. Paul hasnt put it behind him, but he is philosphical about it I would say.

Paul’s financial advisors have kept a close eye on the possibility that MJ’s etstae was all set to lose its interest in Northern Songs to Sony. If ever the opportunity comes up again to buy Northern Songs, Paul (& hopefully Yoko) will grab it.

  12. BLJ says:

@ stephanie, I did say I believe that means it may not be accurate. It is only my beliefs. I just don’t think that Paul would worry about it. I do agree with you, about the opportunity.
