ROOM 801 SYDNEY SHERATON:

When the Beatles were in Sydney in 1964, they stayed at The Sheraton Motor Lodge in Maclay st Potts Point. Years later on every birthday, i would take suite 801 (The Beatles suite) for the weekend, and hold a party for myself and my Beatle friends. Above you can see a mix of old photo’s from 1964, as well as some more contemporary photos of the room, featuring Miss Tammy and some of her free loading friends :-)

    Now expensive penthouses – as I found out to my detriment when I tried to visit there in 2007.

  2. At least Sydney has kept the original and only Beatles Aussie tour hotel building intact… Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne are all gone (in that order)

    Tammy, which one are you?

  4. Tammy says:

    Well Nick .. that’s the question isn’t it :-)

    Tammy, I wish I was with you, that sounds like so much fun. Don’t sometimes you wish you could go back in time and be there at the very moment the Beatles was there?

    The parties were pretty cool if i do say so myself .. they got a little wild and odd, but that’s my middle name, it didn’t help matters that the location is right in the middle of Sydneys red light district :-)

    I do believe I was one of the “freeloaders” at several of Ms Tammy’s parties at Room 801. Had my photo taken on the balcony. Great times…

    @A Car…
    Why do you think they made the decision to convert them to penthouses?
    Because they couldn’t afford that rowdy Tammy crowd rolling in for the weekend…setting new precedents, etc.
    PS-there’s a cat on ebay, that I think you need to strangle…
    DON’T believe it?

    The hotel is in a very shi shi area now, and really wasn’t cutting it as glam accomodation, so they sold it as apartments, the cool thing is, it’s totally retro, and is almost identical to 1964, not even the balcony railings have been replaced. They sold off a lot of the fixtures, many which were original to 1964, even down to the bathroom tiles and shitter. As you can see by the photo above, Miss Tammy took every oportunity to bond with, commune with, become as one with the shitter that hosted the Beatles posteriors. Oh how i loved the icey bite of the cold porcelain against my face.
