Go by John’s mustache which is not as full as feb and closer to pepper cover, definately March.
… although someone told me going by Micks clothes, this could be early April.
thanks everyone for trying to help with the date. stuart and i think it’s late march. i just checked my diaries: “friday, march 31st john was wearing a long flowered shirt until his knees; monday, april 3rd we were outside cavendish ave. and the maid told us paul had gone to new york on monday morning – only george came to the studios later on; tuesday, april 4 only george came to the studios; friday, april 7 – john was drunk today, smelling of beer – he was wearing a long shirt close to his knees”. it does look like it was the 31st… i still can’t believe i didn’t mention meeting stuart or lending him the camera. teenagers!
There is a blurry photo of John that is dated March 31 – he seems to wear a flower power shirt with a somehow swirly pattern design – see here:

Hard to tell but it might be the same as in the b/w photo (would help to see it in color – is it greenish like on the photo just linked?). Doesn`t look like it`s knee-long in the b/w one however.
hi ken, i have that photo, it was taken by one of my friends. the shirt looks like the same one (i remember it well, he wore it quite a bit then, it was long, what was called a kaftan). he is wearing a coat, and on stuart’s photos he has a jacket on, but he could be wearing one on top of the other. i’m sure it must have been chilly on a march night. thanks again for helping out!
It can’t be March 31st as Mick was playing Dortmund, Germany with the Stones – they were in the middle of a European tour. The tour started March 24 in Scandinavia and continued on until April 17 ending in Greece. I personally think the pic was taken after the tour in April – Mick’s hair looks longer than it was in shots of the band on the tour.
And so the mystery continues…

i love it too! we’re playing sherlock holmes here… and i have stuart writing me with whatever he remembers: “I remember George (H) arriving with a big smile just before I left Paul’s house that day, wearing a stripey green velvet jacket and a shirt with a frilly front – typical of Jane Ormsby-Gore’s clothes in ‘Hung On You’ “

i wrote in my diary that on saturday, april 22nd, mick went to paul’s house. but i don’t mention john being there. i wrote stuart asking him if it could have been on a saturday. and, my dear my name’s betty, i can’t consider myself much of an expert on apple scruff matters, since i left london in late october 1969. the girls developed a great relationship with george, derek taylor and others in the apple building after i was gone. most of what i remember and write about in my diaries is way before the scruffs. as i said before, there are several fans who had been following them and going to airports, film studios and even emi way before i arrived – it’s just that they never gave themselves a name, as the scruffs did. but i hope they write their stories one day, as they involve all four beatles and times which most of us can only dream of! (of course, i am not complaining. in the beatle department, i have no right to complain at all!).
Thanks again for another bit of information – will your book contain your diary notes as well, even if not accompanied by a photo? I sure think that would be nice!
