(Sorry, henry…I couldn’t resist)
This is a “Revolver” session from April 1966. Poss Leslie Bryce photo when “Beatles Monthly” covered “Paperback Writer” session. Ringo is certianly wearing the same clothes.
That is certainly Control Room Three, at E.M.I. Studios. I agree with A Car And A Room And A Room And A Room. This is 14 April 1966. Second recording session for “Paperback Writer”, which was recorded in Studio Three, where most of Revolver sessions took place.
The machines behind Starr are, to the left, a B.T.R./3 stereo tape recorder and, to the right, a B.T.R./2 mono tape recorder. The mono machine is being used, so I assume this was the machine being used for mixing down “Rain” and “Paperback Writer”, or it is the B.T.R./2 machine used for the spin echo effect heard on the A side of this single.
Ooooh!!, so it could have been used for that sticky echo, i always wondered how they got that sound back then.
wow, i feel like i’m attending beatle university on this blog – you people know everything! (i just remembered something john once said to me “what you don’t know is not worth knowing” – is that a common saying in the english language? i don’t think i’d ever heard it before nor after). thank you so much a car and henry. i didn’t even know revolver was recorded in studio three… but that’s because i have plenty of good books on the boys but i never read them (i just look at the pictures…) – bad beatle fan!
