“And after the show, we’re taking orders for Vox amps!”

George playing the recently sold Rick 425. Could he be singing “Roll Over Beethoven”?

Simply…the nicest shape of any Rickenbacker
(also marketed later as ‘Electro’ single pick-up/matching cord and amp)
    twang that thang

  6. Ya think Kwai?, it’s my least fave, the Beatle guitar that never fit :-)

    Definitely Trentham Gardens gig.

I’m with Kwai – I love this guitar

I could argue the hipness of Wave shape…(non-conformity for one)
but it’s all subjective. My preference could be because there was an Electro guitar in the house for a few years when I was in junior high school. It was sunburst red with the giant pick-guard in white and one single pick-up. My brother had a snare drum and was trying to be Sandy Nelson. He taught another brother to play Wipe Out on the Electro. Every week a ritual would ensue…right after the opening of Hawaii Five-O we would go wipe out in the garage. Eventually, everyone could play Wipe Out. The guitar had a twangy sound that was real perfect for surf music. That’s why we all decided it was the shape of a wave breaking. Ah youth!

I’m with Tammy on this one – it’s in the same league as the Maton as one of those second-string axes. George will forever be associated with the 360-12 (and the Gretches, or the ‘Gretched twins’ as Kwai might say).

  11. Kwai Chang says:

    Evil, gretched, sexy…
    some guitars cast spells
…and, there ain’t nuthin’ you can do about it
    hit it…then quit it!
    Wow, what a solo…
    (I love that OPEN G-STRING)

All of Georges guitars have that effect on me…

I’m not keen on that one and after wanting a John Lennon-a like for 40 years, my Rickenbacker 350v63 arrives tomorrow.

It only just dawned on me…
now, I know why I love the Ricky 4001 bass so much…
it visually recalls the ‘425’ with respect and taste and color
(was 4001 available in other colors besides fireglo red?)
