Could it be Millie “My Boy Lollipop” Small who appeared with them on Around The Beatles in ’64?
You could be very right there!
The Beatles recorded the television special Around The Beatles on April 28 1964 at Studio 5AB at Rediffusion’s Wembley Studios, London.
Millie Small was one of the other artists, so this Pic could have been taken during the rehearsals?
In 1964 she made her film debut singing ‘My Boy Lollipop’ in a pop musical called Swinging UK but it was television that really put her on the map. In less than a year she made many television appearances, mostly as a guest on pop music shows such as Juke Box Jury, Thank Your Lucky Stars, Ready Steady Go and Top of the Pops. Also in 1964 she was seen in Around the Beatles with the Beatles and Cilla Black, as well as a documentary called Millie in Jamaica.
So I guess the Picture was made during an earlier encouter at one of the mentioned TV shows.
That is not Millie Small, I think it is a random fan. Millie did not wear an afro and I don’t believe she dressed like that.
a random fan getting so much attention….
BLJ is right – it is a fan who met them backstage in January 1964 at the Finsbury Park Astoria. I have an original press print of this shot with her information and the circumstances of the meeting but don’t ask me to find it. There’s Brian Sommerville, the Beatles’ then press agent, in the background.
Hey guys, great info!
Looks a bit like Maya Rudolf, Gold Medalist in the ’60 Olympics.
Meant to say Wilma Rudolf, sorry
There is another photos where the guys are talking to a different fan and this girl is waiting her turn in the background and looks like she is about to bust with excitement.
Thanks GL, Sara and BLJ….thats a wealth of information gathered from just one picture, it’s what makes this website so intriguing
Look at the four cubs!
She must be wearing “Damn!!!”
(the perfume by Kwai Chang on the FarrahMoan label)
That’s “Wilma” Rudolph, not “Maya”. Different era!
Oops! Didn’t see the correction, sorry!
