Creepy. I’ve met only a handful of famous people and never once did the thought ever occur to me to put my hand on their shoulder. I shook hands with them only when they extended their hand. The ol’ hand-on-the-shoulder bit (rather patronising) is something I do only with those I know well. Perhaps I’m too formal. Or respectful. Or both.
Then again, maybe George did know this Bernie… I don’t know.
I have seen hundreds of pictures of George and I have noticed several people with their hands on him. I never thought of it as creepy, just a pose on a photogragh.
The man in the photo is Bernie Hamburger who made the custom guitar George is holding
The worst is seeing the top brASS going ‘starstruck’ in Beatle pics. It’s not enough to be in the same room with The Beatles…It’s not enough to talk face to face with The Beatles…It’s not enough to have your picture taken with The Beatles…
NO! ALL of that still isn’t enough…now, I must TOUCH a Beatle!
Regular fans put them through plenty of aggrevation, but when corporate big-wigs, local political figures, top-rated regional disc-jockies all need to literally touch the group, the line must be drawn. “You’ve already got the golden eggs…why do you need to touch the goose?”
To be fair the photographer often gives directions ‘Can you move a bit closer…put your hand on his shoulder’ etc
Cheers for that post!
