a question for lizzie:
in his book, engineer geoff emerick said he was always amazed at how the diehard fans would suddenly show up outside the studio just before a session started – they somehow seemed to know when the beatles would turn up for a session, regardless of the time of day or night.
how did you all know?
thanks for posting, greg. this photo was published in the book “365 days” but they cut half of me off. i often wondered if there was a version with the whole of me in and i found it a couple of days ago, quite by accident. for those who might think i am checking paul’s behind – maybe i am, i don’t remember – but the fact is that for some strange reason i am holding my glasses in my hands. so, being as blind as a bat, i don’t know exactly how much i could see… it’s a pleasure to share photos with you and your readers! i am a certified beatle photo junkie – it’s such a joy to see a photo i’ve never seen before! cheers to all from a steaming hot rio de janeiro.
hi johnny, we used to go to paul’s house in the afternoon. john often went there, george and ringo went too, but john went more often. then they would go to the studios. some people would stay to see them leave the house and others would be at the studios to see them arrive. apart from that, we would ask the doormen at emi and anyone else we could find, like mal and neil. we would even ask the boys themselves when they would be recording again. but there was a lot of frustration, as you could spend hours in one place and see nothing and find out the next day they were at another place. you could wait for hours and hours and they would come out while you rushed to use the restroom at the underground station or at a church near paul’s house (during the day). and there were times when some of the girls found something out and wouldn’t tell the others. but we did see them a lot – at the time i don’t think i realized how lucky we were. it was just “normal” to see them almost every day!
Wow Lizzie, awesome stories! I can’t even imagine how amazing that would’ve been to see them around from time to time — you’re incredibly lucky!! Did they all look as good in person as they did pictures/movies?? Did they ever talk to you?? Did they seem friendly?? Wow, I’m really curious….I hope you don’t mind me asking these things, this is just so awesome!
hi anonymous! yes, they did look as good – better, in my opinion – than in photos. of course they talked to us, all the time, and they were friendly and normal. there were days when they, or one of them, would be in a hurry and rush inside the studios. other days they would stop, sign autographs and we could take photos. when they left the studios, in the middle of the night, there were only a few of us waiting. there were also days when one of them would be in a bad mood – like any human being. when i finish my book (i am starting to review the writing for the 4th time…) you will be able to read my diaries and see for yourself what it was like to follow them. and there’s some 100 photos to look at too. greetings from rio de janeiro!
Lizzie, might you have taken your glasses off so he could see you better?
thank you for replying, great story.
looking forward to your book release, and good luck.
Lizzie you have awsome stories!! And you’re very lucky What’s the name of your book going to be when it comes out because I want to read it!
Hey lizzie — this is the former anonymous — thanks for answering! You are so unbelievably lucky to have had such encounters let alone experiences with the Fab Four! I’m truly envious! I would love to read your book — please let us know it’s title or when it is expected to be out for I’m totally interested! Thanks!
I still can’t believe you were an Apple Scruff….amazing…. !!!!!
that was funny, jojo! thanks, johnnysilver. vison, my book has a working title of “from rio to abbey road” but i won’t be sure about it until it’s finished.
Hi Lizzie – is it possible to get your autograph to add to “Across the universe”? Love that song!
of course, thorsten, i’ll e-mail you my address.
lizzie, after reading your reply, another question for you:
did you notice if john went to paul’s house before a session LESS in ’68-’69 than in years previous. we all know that john & paul slowly grew apart, so for this reason i wondered if you saw him at paul’s house less by then. thanks lizzie! – johnnyS
i love photo blogs, there is a saying that a picture speaks a thousand words and this saying is also true for blogs that mostly displays photos.
I came across you from Laura’s website. . .phenomenal theme.
hi johnny! i guess john did go to paul’s house less in 68, but he and yoko lived there for a while. i would have to check my diaries, i can’t remember exactly.
salve sono italiano posso contattarti per una serata?
Hi, Lizzie. One time I was outside Paul’s house and the Scruffs showed up. One climbed the wall and opened the gate from the inside. I later read that these girls broke into Paul’s house and took a pair of trousers, which they passed among themselves. Were you one of those girls?
Oh, Lord, this is from 2010 and I only saw it now… maxx, I was not one of those girls… I have never been athletic, so climbing walls was never an option for me! Sorry it took me years to answer…
