What was the deal for # 2, the vocals were live but the music pre recorded ?
As there are two lead vocals which Paul could hardly do both of live, I reckon the microphones were left open.
First pic is the Ed Sullivan ‘Ticket to Ride’ Beatles faces overlay.
And the same trick was used with `Revolution` but it turned out great, innit
Maybe the live mics cover the BBC rules on no more miming or lip syncing on their music shows at that time ?
Correct, Alf. They’d already fallen foul of this with the Mu over the “Hello, Goodbye” promos

On the floor are two more lines (for George and Paul’s locations[?])
Does the overlay include all four?
I just noticed…
George is in the frame on the camera…
so maybe the lines on the floor are not for the other two…
What is this exercise in posing?
Couldn’t this been done at rehearsal?
I don’t recall anything like this on the show?
Watch ‘Ticket to Ride’ on the Ed Sullivan show. There is an extended intro where each of The Beatles faces are superimposed on the live picture of them playing.

I just saw the ‘overlay’ at the very beginning of the song. Indeed, George’s overlay matches the camera frame from this shot. Very interesting to know that some member of the Sullivan crew was trying to get ‘Arty’ all of a sudden!
This could have been much more effective by delaying the Beatles one week and having them OPEN the show as the VERY FIRST COLOR transmission of Ed Sullivan show. Do you know how insulting it sounds to have Ed say “Thank you, Beatles…that was terrific. Join us next week for our very first COLOR episode of this show!”???
It would have been lovely for them to have made this Ed Sullivan show in color. But then if Ed had been on ABC instead of CBS we’d have had ALL The Beatles’ appearances in color!

Judging by the shadows, the feet, and the hair…
that must be Paul’s feet far left(brown shoes?)
these little things just ‘bug’ me…
But, just think of having to endure such ridiculously regimented thinking…
couldn’t this have been accomplished with one mark on the floor? Why the ‘formation’? How is it easier to move the camera rather than the subject?
I guess something elaborate could have been attempted and didn’t lend itself to LIVE taping…how polite can four young lads from Liverpool be?!?!?
Maybe the cameras aren’t allowed to have marks on the floor.
