Luvverly large scans – you excel yet again, squire! Some questions which Lizzie B might be able to answer – are all these shots taken by the late Vinnie Zuffante? Or do some belong to other photographers present on those days?
Secondly, do we have some precise dates in ’76 as to when they were taken? I’m assuming because of their apparel it would be either early or late in the year.

  2. Tammy says:

Hi Datey, i thought after taking a short winter break i’d better return with the goods :-) as far as i know most of these pics were taken by George Tebbens, an old school fan who seems to have disappeared from the world of Beatle fans.

  3. lizzie says:

hi guys! photos # 1, 4, 5, 6 ,7 , 8, 9, 10 and 11 are george tebbens’; #2 and 3 i probably got from one of the fanzines at the time but they have nothing written on the back; #12 has an unreadable stamp on the back and 13, 14, 15 and 16 are by the late vinnie zuffante. i recently got and address for george tebbens’ mother, and one of my friends is going to write her to find out about him. i’ll let you know.

  4. Louise says:

Did they not have conditioner in the 70s?

  5. C3BlueNote says:

    YAY!!! Nice pics….

  6. nick says:

I think some of them towards the bottom were take by Robin Titone or Goldie Friede from the book “The Beatles A to Z” I know they appeared in that book.

  7. stephanie says:

absolutely amazing collection. any new john pics from 76 to 80 are truly gold…. Welcome back Ms Tamster….

  8. Jeff says:

If you look at the length of John’s hair and compare with the “green card photos” in July of 1976 these photos would have to be very late 1976 or winter 1977. I always thought they were winter 1977. Jan/feb 1977.
His hair is very short in the July 1976 photos

  9. lizzie says:

hi nick, please look at my post above. i bought all these pictures, and most of them have stamps or stickers on the back, so i’m pretty sure of who took them.

  10. Jennifer says:

What a beautiful set of photos, thanks so much for sharing. : )

  11. Jorge says:

Great pic I’ve never seen before, thanks so much for this website!

  12. Ishie says:

Love the photos … love the look!

Lizzie thanks for the info … Tammy, great photo surprises as always!

  13. trevor harbord says:

fantastic photos, really captures the moment and almost puts you there in front of john getting an autograph. I gather these are from Lizzie? if so thanks lizzie for these treats. Trev from oz

  14. Cara says:

@Jeff – You can also tell by Sean’s size that these must be late ’76 (rather than early ’76). I just love this series… some new ‘uns to me in this lot. John looks absolutely lovely, as does Yoko. ¡Muchas gracias, Srta. Tammy!

  15. debjorgo says:

I love these. I’m just at a loss for picking a favourite.

  16. A Car And A Room And A Room And A Room And A Room says:

Hi Cara, you raise a good point re: Sean’s age. To me, he looks older than a year. Unless anyone has a definitive record of when they were taken in 1976, I’m inclined to agree with Jeff that they were taken a little later in early ’77. Can you shed any more light, Lizzie? (And thanks muchly for the photo copyright attribution – very helpful).

  17. lizzie says:

so glad you all enjoyed the photos (of course they’re already all over the place, as it happens once something is online!). when i look at the beautiful pictures i have in my collection i think of all the people who would love to see them, but i just can’t bring myself to scan personal shots taken by fans and share them. i bought all these at conventions, and a couple from fanzines, so of course i am not the only one who has copies. i promise once i am done with my book i will convince my friends to put a photo book (or several…) together. with all the experience i have now, i can help them. it breaks my heart that these photos will not be shared once we’re gone. that’s why i am using 99.9% of my photos in my book. i have to explain to my designer that we like photos even if they are john’s back or a bit blurred!

  18. nick says:

    Hi Lizzie!
Thanks for the update. I just remember seeing these photos in that book. Do you have that book? I remember buying some of Vinnie’s photos at the NJ Beatlefest in the 1990’s. Please correct me if I am wrong but didn’t you used to sell stuff at Beatlefest?

  19. Stephen Smyth says:

Hi There! These pictures are such a treat!! I’m very familiar with some of them – the set of Yoko and John together. Say where John has his head bent (up close) and is signing an autograph…but I was completely unaware that so many frames existed from what seems to have been such a short time-frame…somebody out there was snapping away like crazy! Particularly remarkable was the one where a fan is just literally about to shake John’s hand……I shook Bill Clinton’s/Tony Blair’s and a few others at various book-signing but no one was on hand on those occasions to take memorable snaps!! All the best, Stephen.

  20. Tammy says:

    Hi Datey and all,

Am i not correct that on or about Jan 1 1976 John cut his hair really short?, ie Green card photo, and even as late as June 76 during the Rotogravure sessions John’s hair was pretty short, i’m hedging these pics are late 1976.

  21. lizzie says:

you’re very welcome, trevor! hi nick! i lived in new york city (chelsea first then the east village) from 84-94 and a good friend of mine from here (rio de janeiro) came every year for the new jersey beatlefest. he would get a table to sell/trade albums and other things and i always sat there with him, and sometimes sold copies of my photos from the 60’s, or of paul in 89/90. so, yes, you could have seen me there. we went many times. i didn’t particularly care to sit at a table all day, because i have many local friends who went to the fest and i would rather hang out with them.

  22. lizzie says:

dear a car, i’m really not very good with dates… unless it’s 67 to 69, when i can look things up in my diaries sorry! just came home from another several hours at my designer’s office: she has done miracles with some of my photos, they look a-w-s-o-m-e and there’s so many of them! i was just thinking, if i had finished this book in the 80’s, it wouldn’t have as many photos, because saint photoshop didn’t exist!

  23. Nick says:

Hi Lizzie, I am glad it was you! My memory has faded yet! I do remember you sitting at a table and I can picture it very clearly! I would say it was the early 1990’s. I think I may have talked to you once about your photos and I think you had an address on the back of the photo’s like Vinnie did. It’s funny what you remember! -Nick,

  24. Nick says:

I just looked at the book “The Beatles A to Z” and these are credited to Vinnie Zuffante, 1976.

  25. Sara says:

These photos are from November 26, 1976 . There is a story from The Write Thing that I once had on my blog (the only story I have ever had that was asked to be removed by the author) that was there this day with George Tebbins (I think she is the one who is in the photos) and there was a black and white copy of one of them with the story and it describes what he was wearing. It seems like John and Yoko had returned from shopping and these fans were hanging around and were very shocked to have seen him.

  26. lizzie says:

hi nick, i bought most of these photos from vinnie and george themselves, and they all have either stamps (george) or stickers (vinnie) on the back, so if you go to the post where i explain that, you can rest assured that this information is correct. there are 3 photos that i don’t know the photographer. sara, i do have another photo from this series by george that has a fan in it, but i didn’t scan it because she might object to having her photo on a blog. i know there were other fans there that day when george took the photos, so they are out there somewhere.

  27. nick says:

    Hi Lizzie,
I know Vinnie used stickers on his but I never bought anything from George. Now, again, In her book, “The Beatles A to Z” one of these shots is credited to Robin Titone(Plus a lot of others from different years). I can’t say for sure it was her who took the pictures but maybe that solved the mystery? IDK. Did you know the girl who was always with Vinnie? She had blond hair parted in the middle and was kind of heavy set? She didn’t have the greatest skin either but was very nice to talk with. I always wondered what happend to her? Do you remember her at all?

  28. Aeolian Cadence says:

Gah, he looks amazing! (Yeah, that’s all I got.) Thanks ever so, Miss Lizzie and Miss Tammy.

  29. lizzie says:

i have that book too, nick. robin could have been there that day and taken similar shots. all i know is the photos i bought and scanned and were posted here were taken by the people i credited on the earlier post. as far as i’m concerned, there is no mystery when i have stamps and/or stickers on the back of the photos… i vaguely remember the girl you mentioned that used to be at vinnie’s table. unfortunately, i don’t know her name.

  30. George Tebbens says:

Hi, Beatle people. I’m George’s cousin, or George II as he calls me. I’m sure he would get a tremendous kick out of hearing from old friends. He hasn’t actually dropped off the face of the Earth, he just doesn’t realize that there is a thing called “the internet” were pals can find each other even after 20 years.

He lives in Jackson, Mississippi. I think he’s listed, people. His mum, my aunt, lives in Chicago on Western Blvd. Her name is Wanda Tebbens. She may be able to pass along a message to Georgie Porgie for you.

This pics are indeed his. (Except as otherwise indicated.) He used to sell them at Beatlefest. That’s where I met the afore mentioned Zuffante character, who I believe may no longer be with us. I hope I’m wrong about that!

  31. George Tebbens says:

The girl some of you are referring to may have been a girl named Pam. I’m not 100% sure of that either.

  32. George Tebbens says:

Cool Beatle story: George later had John sign the back of a print of one of these and gave it to my brother who got a bit irate with me for accidentally smudging it. It was felt tip on a glossy surface.

I personally got Ringo’s autograph at a press conference for Caveman. I ran up 20 flights of stairs and sneaked in through an open door as Ringo, Barbara Bach and about a hundred press people saw this 17 year old kid in a Dark Horse T-Shirt pop in. Hello!

  33. Sara S. says:

Thanks George II for letting us know that George I is doing alright. I have been enjoying his stories and photos for many years and would love to meet the man behind him. Send him our love.

    Sara S.
