Ooooooooooo VERY nice!
I’m still amazed that no video or audio has emerged from this press conference.
That is JOHN! How skinny he looks
@Mark: umm, press conference in japan in 1977 ?? no such event took place.
Are you thinking of when John was presented his “Green card” at which press was present, if so, that was a year earlier in NYC, 27 July 1976. This was the last occasion in John’s life that press photographers and (one) news crew recorded him.
I can reveal that in fact the news video footage of that event, which finally surfaced in 2006, some of which was used in the excellent doco “US vs John Lennon” , was found only with the help and knowledge of our very own Ms Tammy, who led researchers to find the lost video film in a US TV archive. It had been missing since 1976. Not even Yoko had a copy.
You dont believe me? It is absolutely true !!
Check the credits of the DVD, “Greg Swan” is listed. Ms Tammy is very modest about her achievements. Ms Tammy may tell the full story one day if she so desires.
He looks … odd there. Like a stockbroker. Huh.

I can’t believe how aged he looks from photos of himself just ten years earlier in the Sgt Pepper era. This is nothing against John, and I don’t mean this negatively or anything, but I think out of all the Beatles, he aged the most. Maybe it was the wright loss, the stress of getting deported, the alcohol intake, or even genes. Just my opinion though.
wow, princess stephanie, thanks for letting us know! and miss tammy, i’m waiting for the whole story, please.
Thanks, Stephanie…
he sure looks different than the ‘Nilsson’ days at Troubadour…
(what…2 years before???)
I don’t think he’s “aged” in these photos, but this conservative hairstyle is not his best look. He looks kinda geeky, in fact.
Thank you very much for these, they’re all lovely. : )
I really don’t think he aged the most of all the Beatles, but he had a tendency to look older depending on whatever look he embraced. In 1980, when he wore the moptop style hair, he looked SO young. He was a very handsome guy. He looks a tad preppy here. I don’t know what possessed him. But it’s fun to see regardless.
john should have stayed in his Help!/Rubber soul period.
humble pie dept:
Ive learned that there was a reported press conference, by John & Yoko, on 4th Oct 1977 in japan, possibly filmed. anyone know more about this?
Oh pet, i had your ass covered, i was gonna get you out of this craw gobbling episode
These are indeed from a press conference conducted at the Hotel Okura on October 4, 1977. The PC was conducted primarily in Japanese, and Michael Watts of Melody Maker was the sole ‘Western’ journalist in attendance (his report appeared in the October 15th,1977 edition). Audio of the event does exist in the Lennon archives but does not circulate, and there is no known video from the event.

Thank you Chip, you bugger, i bet you were just toying with us and staying silent for awhile
*EVERYONE LISTEN UP* Chip is authoring what will be without question the greatest tomes ever written thus far documenting John Lennon’s solo life and career. I urge *Every* single blog reader to follow the progress of the forth coming book(s?) at http://www.lennonology.com Miss Tammy has spoken, she will not broach anything less than abject excitement and hysteria at these forth coming works of study on John. I promise you from what i’ve been privvy to know, these books will be the be all, and end all in the study, and documenting of John’s life and career .. and i’m not joking.
@Tammy…
stop teasing us!
I stand corrected, suitably humbled.
What an amazing blog, that the likes of Chip Madinger visit here and enlighten us with his knowledge. Thanks Chip.
Chip Madinger for president!!! I too anxiously await his Lennon book(s). I wonder if Chip visits the Meet the Beatles for Real blog (giggle). You know I do have his autograph on my copy of 8 Arms to Hold you.
Chip knows to hang with the cool people and blogs Sara, as do a few others .. but i can say no more
It is an amazing blog, and Sara – if you’ll leave the link for yours, or leave a note on the lennonology Facebook page, I’ll stop over there as well.

David Bowie all the rage at the time, with his flair and dandy, and I think John would look like
