A Leibowitz from December 8th me thinks?
More Double Fantasies to the left. And, knowing my Lennon 80 lore as I do, that appears to be a piece of chocolate in the dish on the stand. Yoko had apparently gotten John some chocolate on the 7th. That could be part of it.
Yes it is, Pete F.
Check out the Pic of John circa 1963 on his left hand side of the chair…Nice touch.!
That be the Warhol
Oh yeah ! I Didn’t see the heading..! Durr !
@A Different Chris ~ Glad you pointed that out. I was thinking it was a bowl he used to roll his weed…
Unfortunately this was it. These pics used to haunt me at the time. Just the idea that his time was up really sucked.
Cara, the bowl probably had a double purpose HaHa
Alex, I feel the very same. Annie’s photos are beautiful and haunting because we know what the coming hours would bring. From all accounts and interviews, John finally found his comfortable place. He survived the tumultuous 70’s, settled into domesticity and knew when it was the right time to take the ‘axe’ off of the wall. There was excitement & optimism in the air and how happy we were as fans to have him back, albeit far too short a period of time. Who knows what would have been ….
Alex-I’ve always found these pictures to be very haunting as well.
i love all these photos, a mixture of pure beauty and sadness… how could he ever imagine that would be the last day of his life? he looked soooo good, so happy that day. “if i could turn back time…” which song is that, is that one that cindy lauper used to sing?
Lizzie…that’d be Cher. But the sentiment is right on.
Relaxed, calm cool and collected and John could even pull off the yoga pose!
You have no idea how much I would love to sit like that with my new hips.
Give me time LOL
Ishie, what you wrote is beautiful
I love the fact that on the last day of his life he was photographed with a photo of himself as a Beatle and a current photo from his most recent album. Sort of spanned his entire recording career in an eerie way.
Alex, thanks for your kind words.
MarkZapp, great observation … it does appear as if he had gone ‘full circle’ so to speak. John’s new look (with recent haircut) was very similar to his look in Hamburg. ‘Starting Over’ had the feel of those early rock n roll songs that John first fell in love with. I believe John said he was doing his ‘Elvis Orbison’ for that song. In so many ways, John was going back to his roots and looking at life, family & career with a new perspective. He had survived and arrived and looked forward to being back …
The Warhol is most likely the back cover of the then-just released Rolling Stone Press/Times Books publication, The Beatles. The originals were wrapped with an extra reproduction jacket of the Warhol art, suitable for framing, as it said.
