I KNOW I KNOW:

I’ve always thought that if not all, then fair a proportion of the lyrics to John’s song ‘I know, I know’ were written with Paul in mind, perhaps some of it is directed to Yoko, but at this stage in 1973 John and Paul were very close after a year or so of fighting, there is an interview with John by (Gag) Elliot Mintz from this time, where he talks very warmly of Paul, the Beatles and how he would be happy to work with them again, it’s just my thought’s but with conciliatary lyrics, that included the phrases “Yesterday” and “It’s getting better” i can’t help but feel Pauyl, the break up and how John acted and reacted were very much on his mind.

Great song! And “I know”, yes “I KNOW” it MUST have been about Paul! :)

How Do You Sleep? (Lennon – Imagine):
How do you sleep at night?

Some People Never Know (McCartney – Wild Life):
‘Some people can sleep at night time,
Believing that love is a lie.
I’m only a person like you, love,
And who in the world can be right all the right time?
I know I was wrong, make me right, right!

I Know (I Know) (Lennon – Mind Games):
‘The years have passed so quickly…

And I know just how you feel
And I know now what I have done
And I know and I’m guilty (yes I am)
But I never could read your mind

I know what I was missing
But now my eyes can see
I’ll put myself in your place
    As you did for me

Today I love you more than yesterday
Right now I love you more right now

And I know what’s coming down
I can feel where it’s coming from
And I know it’s getting better all the time
Now we’re sharing each other’s minds’

I just love that Paul has said Jealous Guy was about him…
From Playgirl in 1985: “He wrote ‘I’m Just a Jealous Guy,’ and he said that the song was about me. So I think it was just some kind of jealousy. I had to try and forgive John because I sort of knew where he was coming from.”

‘I was dreaming of the past
And my heart was beating fast
    I began to lose control
    I began to lose control

I didn’t mean to hurt you
I’m sorry that I made you cry
Oh no, I didn’t want to hurt you
    I’m just a jealous guy

    I was feeling insecure
You might not love me anymore
    I was shivering inside
    I was shivering inside’

    Love them.

Wasn’t it another apology to Yoko?It was written after he humiliated her because Nixon won the election in ’72.

  4. Brian says:

…and “Woman” is John saying sorry to May Pang (I reckon).
His lyrics are broad enough to apply to all sorts of things in many aspects of life. That’s the beauty in them.

I’ve always thought “I Know” and “Jealous Guy” were directed to Paul. Nice picture. :)

“Well I been to Meat City (McCartney?) to see for myself
Just got to get me some rock ‘n roll
People were dancing like there’s no tomorrow
    Meat City
Finger licking chicken picking Meat City shook down U.S.A.
    Pig Meat City”

“Well I been the mountain to see for myself
Just got to get me some rock ‘n roll
Snake doctors shaking like there’s no tomorrow
    Freak City
Chicken sucking mother trucking Meat City shook down U.S.A.
    Pig Meat City”

    “Well I’m going to China
    Yes I’m going to China
    Well I’m going to China
    Yes I’m going to China
    I’m going to China
    Yes I’m going to China”

At the time Paul had been trying to arrange a tour of China that didn’t happen.

“Who is that? And why are they doing … those…. strange …things.”

‘Let me roll’ it is to John from Paul.
