On good days: “Please don’t hang around, I told you not to hang around, it’s a drag…”. I won’t write down the bad days since this is a family blog. Let’s just say I learnt some of the swear words I know in the English language from Paul. (I’m afraid they didn’t teach Swearing in English at Catholic school here in Rio). I don’t remember him swearing or being mad directly at me and it’s not in my diaries.
I’m surprised,so he actually told fans ‘where to go’!!!!?
To the London Plaidium…
Tam O’Shanter and The Lady In Black
Ol’ McCartney had a farm
and on that farm
he had some fans
With a Lizzie here
and a Gayleen there
Here a fan
there a fan
Everywhere a fan FAN
Ol’ McCartney had some fans
Image building/maintenance is filled w/ ambiguity. For example, “Get out of here” can really mean “Don’t leave”… I mean Paul is the premier PR man of the world. The day he stood in the street w/ his realtor in from of 7 Cavendish, it went like this:
Realtor: “Is this close enough to your fans??? You wanted a house that will allow you to be seen…this is it…what do you think?”
Paul: “I’ll take it”
… a quite fetching Linda.
I hope he’s saying “Please don’t photograph me in this suit!”.
Michael – yes; Linda yum.
It gives me shivers to think I was standing there (again) just last year. Roll call – how many of us here have been there? Yes, you, Lizzie…
ps – Paul and Linda McCartney taking a TAXI? Really?
He’ll need a ride home if he’s going to another Scottish Family Crest Singalong…it’s the pipes, man!
Interesting song, Kwai, thanks!
October 1973.. a day off from Recording & Mixing BOTR
It’s October 4 1973, if you’d like to see more:
I can’t say I blame him for being nasty at times. I personally would hate anyone hanging out near my house for any reason. It’s just wrong and violation of privacy. I know the fans have good intentions but….jeeze…. how much can one person take all of the time? Just my two-cents….
I’ve never been to his house and I’ve been to London twice! Just never gave it a thought.
“I don’t wanna be cute anymore”!!!
Nick, if you don’t want anyone hanging around your house, don’t be a pop star. And I was talking about the 60′s. I would never hang around his house nowadays.
I went to his house in 2010 and 2013! I didn’t hang around….just stood outside the front grate and took a photo. It was neat to see the front gate and part of the house that I had read so much about over the years. And to walk from the house to Abbey Road Studios sort of put things into perspective. You know, you always read how close it is, but I got to walk it myself and see.
I am not sure I understand your logic? What does being a pop star have to do with people that you don’t know hanging around your home, taking pictures and all of that? I mean Paul can’t live under a rock and hide? What I mean is everyone, famous ot not famous, I think, has a right to live in privacy. It’s just creepy to me, that’s all I am saying.
When did he buy the house?
oh….at the peak, pinnacle, apex, summit of his popularity/fame.
And, yet, we are to believe that it is impossible to be discreet in real estate…from a guy who regularly used pseudonyms in his professional career.
Does he have this problem at Campelltown?
(That’s a real low-key suit…you blend right in)
He’s only human isn’t he? Would the times he is/was friendly and sign autographs not outnumber his less friendly moments?
He might be human…
but, he is also Paul McCartney.
(If everyone else understands that…
why doesn’t he?)
I’ve never heard many complaints about Paul being crabby with the fans. I think he is constantly in promo mode.
Nick, you are totally right: everyone deserves their privacy, but when you’re one of The Beatles it doesn’t work out that way. Tell a teenager in 1967 there is a place (like Paul’s house) where she/he can see Paul himself, John many times a week and George and Ringo on occasion, apart from Mick Jagger, Donovan, etc: there is no way this youngster is not going to try and see them. I don’t know if you’re sort of my age (63 on the 29th) or much younger, but times were quite different then. There were no security guards, you could walk the streets of London at any time of the night with no danger, there were no paparazzi, etc. GLCompany, of course he was nice most of the times. And Kwai, he wasn’t constantly in promo mode then yet.
What’s up, Paul?
It’s OKAY as long as they stay near the supremely magnificent proscenium arch…
The reference above comes from an album called LondonTown
I wish strangers would hang around outside my house
@Tammy: Dutchess of Oven…
(tee hee hee)
I’ve been by Paul’s house whenever I’ve gone to London ( which is only 4 times over the years)
In 1976, Linda came out and pretty much hinted that I and the other people there (about 3) should go away. I didn’t take too much offense; I just figured that at one point in her life, she might have been on the outside of that fence, too, but maybe wasn’t always in the mood to remember that.
I have been there, on the Street Where He Lived on more than one fine summer day.
He doesn’t own the street.
Although, I’m sure he could buy it if he wanted to…security gate/guard shack at either end…but, that would mean no more fans/autographs/pictures/promo/promo/promo/at the curb/gate.
THAT’s why he gets bummed now and then…
Because the monster he created is still alive and he knows it cannot be tamed. So he must kill it himself…or, let it be motivated by its own instincts.
There’s just no way to have it both ways.
Maybe I’m amazed at the way want me then you don’t…
maybe I’m afraid I never needed you!
