Good lad.

“John, he was a good lad. There’s a part of him that was saintly, that aspired to the truth and to great things. And there’s a part of him that was just, you know, a loony! Like the rest of us. But he was honest; if he was a bastard one day, he’d say, ‘I’m sorry, I was wrong.’ And just deflate any negative feeling you had about him. We’d been close and distant. The fact that he was living in New York meant I never saw him for a long time. The autumn of ‘78 I went up to the Dakota, I think that was the last time. But he’d send postcards – like the Rutles. So when I’m in England, I can still think of John in New York. I never saw him anyway, he could still be there for all I know. You know what I mean? They can kill the man, but they can’t kill the spirit. They can’t kill what he meant to you.” – George Harrison, Musician, March 1990

Ah, well done, Tam for finding this interview. I knew I’d read an interview with George when he mentions last seeing John. It was a Scandinavian TV interview George did where he mentioned that John was playing Indian music when he visited – which he found ironic and amusing as in the past, John had sometimes tended to be dismissive of George’s interest in the East.

I hadn’t read this before, I love it! By the way, I am reading my book for the 1000th time to match with the photos and make sure I’m not forgetting anything, and I found out the first time we saw George without a moustache was January 22nd, 1968. We even mentioned it to Paul when we saw him the next day.

Now I read we saw Ringo without a moustache on February 8th, 1968. This is not terribly exciting news, but it might help with the dates on photos.

George had a lovely way of saying things.

    Hi Lizzie,
When you saw George and Ringo without moustaches in early 1968 wouldn’t that be about Lady Madonna time and therefore wouldn’t that also be the same time you sang on Across The Universe ?
    Regards again

George appears to be wearing his velvet-collar stage jacket as well.
