Looks like John and Cosell and David Letterman’s dad!

  2. alex of da bronx says:

    Monday Night Football ?

  3. Jeff says:

That’s Rooney Arledge, the producer of ABC sports, with Howard Cosell and John. Six years later, Howard Cosell would announce the terrible new of John’s death on the same Monday Night Football program that John had guested on at the time of this picture.

  4. Tammy says:

No, i think John went on a radio show of Howards too, Datey or Hyacinth will be able to put their finger on it.

  5. MarkC says:

Looks more like a radio studio than a football broadcast booth, by the look of the panelling and the tape catridges. Plus, no Giffer or Dandy Don.

  6. Ishie says:

    I think the dates were:

    Howard’s radio program October 6, 1974

Monday Night Football December 9, 1974

  7. Ishie says:

I submitted my comment too soon. I wanted to say that I think that there is confusion regarding the October 1974 date as some publications note it as September 1974 which is when he did a WNEW interview.
Datey, can you set this straight?

  8. Alex of the Bronx says:

Wow Ishie thats a bit spooky, M.N.F. was 12/09/74 ? and then M.N.F. on 12/08/80.
I remember both of them when they happened.
1974 was an L.A. Ram game
    1980 was Miami/New England.
Remember both of them like they happened yesterday.
Howard Cossell was a very good man who quietly worked behind the scenes helping John with his immigration problems.

  9. Kwai Chang says:

“I’m just tellin’ it like it is!”
(I think Howard was a lawyer before he was sportscaster)

  10. alex of da bronx says:

Kwai, he was both at the same time. Talented guy, Howard was.

  11. Jeff says:

Does audio exist of Howard’s radio interview with John?
