South Africa was not a kind place (if you happened to be black/African) during this time (1975)..It was not any better when Lennon visited in 1980..Always bummed me out that any of the fab four would have anything
to do with this country during it’s apartheid era…Given their point of view on peace and love.

    I don’t disagree.

“I-I-I ain’t gonna play Sun City!”
    Three cheers for Colonialism…
Were the Beatles ever asked to play South Africa?
I doubt if they were…because Brian would have made them go
    Loyal to Royal
    True to Blue
So, it may have even evolved into Beatles-as-Al-Jolson…in blackface
“you think you’ve lost your MAMMY…
    well, I saw Mammy yesterday…
    Mammy loves you
and you know that can’t be bad…(etc)”

And, it would all be brought to you by “Beatles Sing For De Beers”…
(or, worse…”Beatles For Stones”…because there’s no rock like a diamond)

Ringo (and Zak) did play on the “Sun City” single, BTW.

The Beatles WERE asked to play Sth Africa in 1964 and Brian did not make them go. Both were in accord about not going.

    @A Car…
I knew I was using the right bait…
    Thank you!
