FOR DEBBIE:

This post is dedicated to my friend Debbie who passed away last night, she loved her Beatles, and she especially loved her Macca. I’ve had time to reflect on the joy and happiness these guys, and there music has brought to us all, it brings love, it brings friendship, it brings comfort. Never appologise, or be embarrassed for being a Beatle fan, it is a good thing, it’s a beautiful thing, and the riches, and joys, and friendship it brings is such a gift to us all, i know the Fabs delivered all that and more to Debbie. I’ll love and appreciate The Beatles just that little bit more now, in gratitude for the joy and friendship they’ve brought to me, and for my friends who are no longer with us, to listen to, and share that joy.

Greg xoxo

Thoughts and prayers go out to your friend.
I’ve asked that “All Things Must Pass” be played at my funeral, then a party be given afterwards and that The Beatles blast out of the stereo speakers in all their glory.

Greg, my thoughts & sympathy to you over the loss of your friend Debbie. I love your words about the ‘gifts of the Beatles’. Although the band could not go on forever and a reunion of the 4 was never to happen, their music, talent, humor and style live on. I feel very lucky to have grown up during the time that they took the world by storm. They were new and fresh and beautiful and their music and sound was like no other.
I like being a Beatles fan and I like that sense of euphoria when I hear a song, watch a film or look at the fabulous photos on this site.
Thanks Greg for keeping their memory alive. Debbie was very lucky to have you in her life!

i’m so sorry for your loss, my friend. i also lost a macca fan friend two years ago this month. as a first generation fan, i have beatle friends who have grown up with me since we were kids, we have seen each other start working, marry, have kids, become grandmas. and we still shriek when we see a “new” photo… having friends like that is a treasure that words cannot describe. and i thank the boys for these amazing people i still meet to this day because of them. rest in peace, debbie.

A lot of people -regardless of nationality or age- connect so easily with each other through the Fab Four. That is very special and I’m sure that that will never stop.

Being a Beatle/Paul fan, i feel like Debbie was a friend of us all, not just me, or those close to her geographically. That’s why i feel such appreciation for the Fab’s, as if the music isn’t enough, we get all these amazing bonuses i mentioned, friendship, comfort, joy etc etc.

  30. shelly says:

    You’re a lovely soul Tammy.

  31. Tammy says:

I guess i’m lucky, i seem to have a lot of friends, even from when i was at school i’ve stayed close to many of them (the nice and glam ones, not the bully’s ha ha) but when i look at the fun and friends and adventures the Beatles have brought into my life it amazes me, this week a ‘Macca mate’ visited and we had a great day laughing till tears came, last night i was in a texting frenzy with another ‘Macca mate’, planning on our catch up’s whilst i’m in Melbourne, inbetween Facebook chatting with an old Beatle pen pal. Then there is a whole OTHER group of Beatle/Macca frends i have in the the state of Victoria, again .. we’ve had the best adventures and laughs, my ‘net’ friends are just as close, and we often do meet up in the end, even if it’s me flying from Australia and meeting friends at a Washington train station and within about thirty seconds feeling like i’ve ben hanging out with them all my life.

The point of all this is quite simple, the Beatles are fun .. they bring joy, that’s the whole purpose of this blog, not to be all serious and uptight, but to just share the ‘joy’.

The Beatles are a good force in this world, and in these times, we need as much ‘Beatle power’ as we can get :-)

  32. Jo says:

Beautifully said, Tammy. May ‘Our Boys’ shine on the soul of Debbie as she moves across the universe. I’m always saddened to learn of the passing of another one of our legion….

  33. Aeolian Cadence says:

I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. I think she was fortunate to have a friend like you.

  34. Lizzie says:

beautiful words, greg, and you’re so right. when my daughter was little (she will be 40 in october) she told me she loved the beatles because their music talked about love. even though she didn’t speak english, she knew that word and could hear it in their music. it’s this same love we’re all talking about here. i am so very proud to be a beatle fan, and soooo very proud of our boys and all they have accomplished in their lives and what they mean to the world. younger people might have no clear idea of HOW MUCH influence they had in so many ways, not just with their marvelous music. being young in the 60′s was definitely bb (before beatles) and ab (after beatles).

  35. Laura Dever says:

    You will be missed. :)

  36. Kwai Chang says:

    Tammy,
It is said that love can only be truly measured at the moment of parting…in other words, you will never be more beautiful than my last glimpse of you…that is why we must blame Love for making death more Romantic than life. Nothing must be left for later…if there is anything to say, to do, to see…do it now.
Thus, with every gain…there is loss…and with every loss…there is gain.
Not only did this tragedy result in some of the best pictures of Paul I had never seen…but the warmth of the comments above have renewed my faith in many ways…you see, the thing is…the world has become a lot less Beatleish than it used to be…and the loss of Debbie just makes it seem even more so
(I just realized…The Beatles may be the only thing that can save us)

“Never appologise, or be embarrassed for being a Beatle fan” just YESTERDAY my cousin kept saying how much “they suck”, and I stayed firm by saying “I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the beatles!!!!!” I deeply care for them just like my fellow beatle fans and yesterday my big church was singing Come Together, it definitely brings people together, aside from yesterday… God bless :)
