Do you take comissions?, i’d love a print based on John in 1980 for my new Tingle Manor.
That’s very good. Presume it’s in England, with the reference to the garden fete – is it a specific location?
Would love a copy of this. Its Fab.
FANTASTIC, i love it! congratulations, derek.
this is great, wonderful work derek! thank you very much for sharing
I still believe in believin’!
The image is alive and calls the viewer to get closer…
and, if possible, enter the realm of time travel.
…dive into the image and you will be underwater 20,000 leagues beneath the future… It seems like I was really there but whose eyes was I seeing it through? A labyrinth of fab meditation will fix any holes where the rain gets in. This is the game called existence to the end of the beginning…nothing is real, right now…over me!
I like it…I originally thought Guy Peellaert was back doing more Rock Dreams!
Wow, beautiful work Derek!
I love that John is wearing Elvis buttons and Paul is wearing a John button 😉
WOW, speechless!!! This is just amazing!
What an amazing work of art! : ) Great job, Derek. : )
MY PLEASURE, thanks for the compliments. I’m chuffed.
It isn’t anywhere specific [Stuart]… just an imaginary get-together one imaginary afternoon: ‘John and Paul Get Away From It All’ is the title…
Derek, this is is absolutely stunning. The details are fantastic and you captured John and Paul brilliantly.
Thank you for posting this which is a beautiful representation – difficult to say the age of each of them in this pic, however I would guess john from early 1970’s and Paul from late seventies. Like someone else has mentioned it would be wonderful to have John circa 1980 with Paul from the same year.
Derek, have you showed this to Sir Paul or his People?
That’s really good. I like how Paul is wearing a John Lennon button, and John is wearing Elvis buttons. Captured them beautifully. Nice!
You really need to get this to Paul somehow because this is just too good. Very moving, emotional…and we all want to purchase a copy. I’m an artist and this work is very beautiful. Makes me want to enter into the painting and join them. Reminds me of what Paul said in 1976 when Saturday Night Live had that skit and he was visiting John. Wonderful. If only they had went down there on the set…
This is so great! You’re right Nika and Cindy, bet Paul would love this! Kwai, I agree with you, totally! You just want to climb through the screen and be part of this scene. You can almost smell the weed. Thanks for this!
What a great job! I love it. Thanks so much for sharing!!
check out his other artwork too at http://www.derekbacon.com
Wow, thanks! Glad to hear it’s so liked…CHEERS
Basically, I wanted to make a happy picture… them having a larf, away from all the hassles. From what I gather, they didn’t get many chances to do much of this after the split, and whatnot. So I thought I’d make the chance for them. It’s bad enough just losing someone you love, but losing someone via murder must be an intolerable thing to live with. So I just wanted to make it all happy, for a bit.
Nika, Cindy, I did post it to MPL, but who knows if these things ever make it to the boss? It’s nice to think maybe.
Based on the comments here, I think you have a market in terms of people interested in purchasing a print of this picture. Is this possible?
This really is an incredible picture in that you’ve made a fictional encounter seem (and feel) so real. And that’s got to be Bob Marley coming out of the tape player!
If you don’t mind, Derek, I will send it to Paul’s PA, his manager, and to Mark Lewisohn. I think they should see it!
wow. this is beautiful!
is that hunter s thompson peeking over the wall?
I’m hoping i don’t hear a news report that Kwai actually did try to crawl through the screen
I don’t mind at all Nika, let me know what they say! Tea-times I’m always in…
Jonathan, yes it’s possible.
Jim, Hunter S. there but who knows with that guy.
I think the touch-screen monitor will accommodate me…
(…and, they’re swim-fin friendly…)
No need to wait 30 minutes after eating…
“follow that grunion”
hi derek, what most amazes me about this work of yours is that you were able to capture not only their facial expressions but the feeling between them, their friendship. i was fortunate enough to see them together many times in the late 60’s, and have always been fascinated by what i saw/heard: they finished each other’s sentences, laughed together, just seemed totally in sync. i was a 15-year-old girl, but i did notice that about the two of them and will never forget it. thank you for making those feelings “real” in your work – i have come back to look at it several times… regards from a sunny rio de janeiro.
That means a lot Lizzie, and coming from you, much more than a lot. Thank you…
you’re very welcome! it means a lot to us that you took the time to make it. (by the way, are you on facebook? if so, would you post the link? i found several people with your same name.). or you can send it to firstname.lastname@example.org. while i’m at it, anyone else on the blog that would like to be my facebook friend please send a request and you can also reach me on the above e-mail. i’m easy!
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! Please do more.
That is so fantastic Derek!! Do you have a website or the like? I’d love to buy a print of it!
This is a beautiful work of art.
Reminds me of that story that J&P were watching Sat Night Live together, at the Dakota, when Lorne Michaels proposed a Beatles get-together
