It’s hard to imagine New York having this much space and no trafic zooming up the streets, these two photos show that the Dakota hasnt changed much, but the world around it sure has.

The B&W Dakota photograph goes a long way to explain the nickname of the building.
I read somewhere that it got dubbed ‘Dakota’ as when it was first built it was so far away “way out west” that for many New Yorkers it was like trekking out west, literally, to the Dakota’s.
