    First pic was taken at the Alchemical Wedding event at the Royal Albert Hall, 18 December 1968.

    I’d never seen the first one, I love it! And again, I was in London but had no idea they were at this event.

    I think Tammy and Kwai will appreciate the little anecdote about John at the Alchemical Wedding that can be found here: http://www.leeharris.co.uk/LeeHarris/Works/afootsol.htm

    Oops! Not the actual event, but happened at the Arts Lab.

    @Cara…
    That article was enlightening. I don’t know why I’ve never heard that part of the J+Y story. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the alchemical wedding mentioned anywhere(I’ll have to recheck Lewisohn). I haven’t even seen any pictures from the event. The top photo above is a real treasure. We need more. Look at Yoko smiling. She’s beaming like a lighthouse. It looks like she’s even had her hair curled/permed. I don’t understand why her clothes look like they were borrowed from John’s wardrobe. And, what’s with the branch/stalk in John’s jacket? It must have really been an electric moment of anticipation for all involved. The goings on at the Arts Lab sound a lot like my place before I thinned the crowd and finally replaced them all with chickens.
    An unrelated footnote finds a parallel scene containing a young David Bowie hanging with the heads at a place known as Beckenham Arts Lab. This was a similar affair although two years later. An event known as The Free Festival was held. Bowie commemorated the event with a single Memory Of A Free Festival. This song(the single version…NOT the album version) is the LAST piece of sublime flower power pop to emerge from the original wave started in the mid-60s. “It was ragged and na├»ve…it was Heaven”.
    Thank you, Cara!

    Yoko’s hair wasn’t permed- she actually has naturally curly hair. (which wasn’t in style back in the late 60′s. It’s likely when it appeared straight she probably had done what most women with curly hair did back then- ironed it.) When she got pregnant with Sean she let it go natural- http://www.condenaststore.com/-sp/WWD-April-1975-John-Lennon-and-Yoko-Ono-Prints_i8706962_.htm and http://25.media.tumblr.com/c1zaFXBnHos8013sOOvD9SfKo1_400.jpg

    @Ciarda…
    Thank you. That’s pretty amazing to see Yoko with such wavy hair. I can’t recall seeing anything so drastic before. Maybe the crewcut-for-charity made it curlier(naturally)…approximate infinite regrowth.
