mooney the looney the best drummer ever, real passionate, maniac
(ditto @ mike…)
That percussionist isn’t Ringo, is it? Of course, he directed and starred in this film but I think he had a beard at this time (and no, not the fake Merlin beard, either)…
I don’t see Ringo?
Looks like Ringo to me. Check the grey on the temple…
(so where’s Frampton and Harry)
That is Ringo – he shaved his beard for the filming of That’ll Be The Day which was about to start. That’s Bobby Keys on sax. This sequence from Count Downe was shot in a warehouse at Surrey Docks, south London on 15 August 1972. Frampton and Nilsson are out of shot.
Another Vampire mystery solved…
I believe the song was At My Front Door…
Hey Datey, i also thought maybe the Ringmeister shaved his beard so they could stick on the Merlin beard, having a face as smooth as a baby’s posterior myself i’m not au fey with the facial whisker caper, but beard on beard action does not sound workable to me .. thoughts?
Hi Tam, that’s another workable theory but I think (I’m not 100% sure) that the Merlin scenes were shot later – after TBTD. (TBTD went into production on the Isle of Wight on 23 October ’72). Count Downe started shooting in 1972 and didn’t premiere until Atlanta Film Festival on April 19, 1974 – there’s a lot to be gleaned about the film but it looks like an official DVD release is off the menu as Ringo now regards the film as “an embarassment”.
P.S. Premiered as “Son Of Dracula”, of course.
Ringo is right…nobody wanted it then…it would sink today
