At Kenwood I believe
pete, i think that’s sunny heights. is paul looking for john’s lost contact lenses? there are several poses from this moment in henry grossman’s book…
Yes, it’s Sunny Heights (February 28, 1967). Paul must be trying to charm Martha into the frame for the forthcoming dog and Beatle snaps, as Ringo’s dog (Tiger?) is already behind him.
i was just kidding, kristen – john had given up the contact lenses by then. i was to follow some time later, when i got my round golden glasses like john’s from the national health. i think i might have paid a little for them, can’t remember. it has been a blessing to feel good about wearing glasses and not be called four eyes like i was in school… john had no idea how many people benefited from his choice!
Yes, one does pay a little for NHS glasses- I did, and I’m from Soviet Union but was made very welcome in Liverpool
Kristen, is Feb. 28th definitely the correct date for this photo shoot? Henry Grossman was definitely the photographer and had earlier that day taken photos of George and Pattie at Kinfauns – then that same night after the Beatles & pets Sunny Heights shoot, Pattie hosted a birthday dinner for George. Grossman doesn’t give an exact date in the book, but George’s birthday on the 25th that year was a Saturday and a day the Beatles weren’t working in the recording studio. Mark Lewishon’s book shows the Beatles were in the studio on the 28th from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. – which would seem to conflict with the dinner party on the same day as the photo shoot at Sunny Heights. What is your source for the 28th? Thanks!
Ringo looks exactly like the Yellow Submarine cartoon version of himself here.
The 28. February has been long established – not sure what the sources were and how we arrived at it but it is pretty much settled. There are shots in the studio (same gear) as well, including some with Paul`s father visiting.
I think the Grossman might put the dinner party at the wrong date.
Thanks for your reply Ken. The Sunny Heights photo shoot and the recording studio shots were definitely on different days. Henry Grossman makes that very clear in his book, but both days of photo sessions are close together at the end of February. Since the Beatles were next in the recording studio on Feb. 28th, on a date after George’s birthday dinner, I don’t doubt the studio photos were taken on the 28th. But the Kinfauns shoot with George & Pattie, the Sunny Heights with pets shoot and George’s party were all taken on the same day and on an earlier date than the 28th – probably Feb. 25th. None of the Beatles are wearing the same clothes in the Sunny Heights photos as in the photos taken in the recording studio (which also includes the posed portraits against a backdrop).
Really, Grossman says different days?
I remember spotting a overlap of clothes worn so I assumed same day all the while. Too bad I lost my Pepper website, where I collected many photos from the event (or two events), pointing out similarites.
I guess I need to have another look!
