UK tour October 1964, Alex
this one is “new” for (to?) me! i just remembered that in one of the early entries in my diaries i mention how his hair was lighter in person than i thought from photos and the films. tomorrow would have been his birthday. i don’t want to sound sour, but i don’t jump up and down for joy and wish him a happy birthday every october 9, because he is not here to celebrate.
The Man Who Wouldn’t Brylcreem…
“brown, red, strawberry blonde, henna, darker, lighter, too long, too short…and, AUBURN!!!” it’s one of those colors for sure. The main thing is that it will be different when he goes outside…or, comes back in…or, daytime…or, nighttime. This was so much easier in Hamburg. You could really see what color it was when he would wear a toilet seat around his neck! But then, they were never a band to rely on gimmicks or varnish to make them shine. Even if brylcreem had been available in gloss, satin and flat…it wouldn’t have mattered.
So…what color IS THAT hair? Does the magic color have a name?
Certainly…that’s called “clean”!
Happy bird day, Johnnie!
Lizzie, I agree with you. I could never understand the Happy Birthday to someone who is no longer here. Maybe Happy Birthday to the memory of him.
“Happy Birthday Johnny” is shorthand for “We remember you on your special day and honor your memory”. What’s wrong with that? Should we just ignore it? That seems kinda cold.
He gave us music, literature, drawings, honesty, humor, thoughts and words to reflect upon. We remember his collarless suit smile, the mischevious twinkle in his eye, the searching child inside the man, his fight for peace, his vision of unity.
We remember those attributes today and celebrate the life of the man that gave those gifts to us.
We are sad that he was so prematurely taken from his family, his friends and those around the world that he touched in the smallest or largest of ways.
Imagine …. as one!
John, on your birthday I honor your memory.
Sorry… John’s spirit: I remember you and your former human form with appreciation on the day of your birth. Is that better?
Happy Birthday John, still miss ya after all these years, it would have been nice to grow old with you still around and get your views on things.
It’s still October 9th in California… so, Happy John’s Birthday to Lennon fans the world over! This is a holiday for us! Celebrate!
Another Superb picture
