    George seems really pissed off…..

  5. Jorge says:

George kinda looks like a “thin” Keith Moon here…….sorta?

August 11th ’72 at the Mayfair for the raga premiere ?

  7. A Car And A Room And A Room And A Room says:

No, this was taken on the steps of EMI Studios, July or August 1972

  8. Now I have ‘Date deflate’. I was all cocky thinking it was the same day as the previous 72 pic of Hari. You mean George actually wore that disgusting crimpolene suit twice!!??. 😳

  9. mcarp555 says:

“EMI Studios”? This doesn’t look like either Abbey Road or Manchester Square.

It’s taken from the top step looking out towards the carpark – you can see the set of iron gates on the right.

Actually, looking at it again, the buildings in the background are too close for it to be Abbey Road. Please hold, caller …

  12. mcarp555 says:

Yes, it’s way too big for the carpark, and the white wall/fence is missing. Plus, the buildings in the background don’t look like they would have at this time. And the view from Manchester Square (EMI headquarters) would have been towards a small park as I recall, similar to Russel Square (but not nearly as big).

Tammy, George may have been photographed wearing that SAME Crimpolene suit at least three times, it also looks like he might be wearing it at his July 12th ’72 traffic court appearance, and how’s this for a horrifing thought, having never seen these photos in color, they could be THREE different suits! All made out of that same cheesy looking material…. As for the August 11th date, location, etc…I saw this photo with the Info underneath it somewhere.(thought it might be on Sarah’s or Tammy’s sites, naturally) Since reading the comments I tried to find it and, of course, can’t, although I must confess I didn’t try that hard

First, apologies mcarp55 and Poppermost, it definitely is not EMI Studios – my goof, sorry. Poppermost was on target – the pic was taken at preview of the Raga film. I found the original clipping that appeared in the London Evening Standard (dated 11 August 1972, page 23):
“George Harrison, looking almost conventionally neat and surprisingly young with carefully cut hair, ripple suit and open neck shirt, was playing host in Mayfair THIS WEEK (my caps) with the trim, cheery Mrs Patti Harrison in his wake. He had hired a small cinema behind the Hilton to show a new film called Raga, an eloquent exposition on the life of Ravi Shankar, to a few friends, Mr Shankar among them…”
The article goes on to report that Ravi was shuttling between the Hyde Park Hotel to Friar Park (Ravi didn’t stay with the Harrisons as FP was being renovated at the time) and was in London to play a concert with Yehudi Menuhin at Southwark Cathedral.
Hitachi, if you’d like a copy of this clipping, just let Tammy know. Cheers, all.

No need to apologize; this is how research works, by questioning, double-checking and verification. Mistakes are eliminated and facts remain.

Side note: It’s amazing how George could move from ‘Rock Sage’ of the Bangladesh concerts back to ‘Revolver George’ so easily.

Another side note: Pattie Harrison – ‘trim’. Yes, yes she was. :p

  16. Hitachi says:

Once again “A Car..” you have come up with the goods (as has “Poppermost”). For years I had assumed it was them arriving at the CBS convention but was always curious why there was never any mention of Ravi, or Patti for that matter, being at the convention. This explains why!
“A Car..”, because of your access to 70’s Solo Beatles “facts” I think you and I need to have a talk so please get in touch with Tammy who will give me your email or vice versa if I can get to Tammy before you. In either case we really do need to talk :)
Also wouldn’t mind having a chat with “Poppermost” who seems to have similar hobbies as well!
