A great Robert Whitaker shot from October 1965 used as the front cover of the Beatles’ 1966 USA tour programme. Shame the coloured background has been airbrushed out.
Cool, alternating button shirts and turtlenecks……..fashion pioneers!
Too bad Whitaker only got a small slice of the political pie!
Bob W. was better than R. Freeman(except Rubber Soul cover).
Whitaker was a multi-level genius of ‘simple message/complex symbolism’. His lens was able to extract a coolness that is invisible to most. If his work looked pretentious, perhaps you’re straighter than you think.
Otherwise, the crown belongs to Astrid…
she cool have been THERE for them the way Whitaker was…
however existential it might have turned out to be…
(she might have been too far ahead for the public)
Whitaker was perfect for the U.S. although the Europe might have needed a Dezo…So, the only other photographers that might rank are in the band!
Grasshopper—what’s your 7th line down mean? I’m not tripping at the moment, so don’t quite follow… Anyway, I say hats off to ASTRID (unt Jürgen) for so artfully capturing an unknown band. Sure, They got all the Pros once they were famous, and deservedly so, but you couldn’t ask for more iconic shots of them Hamburg Beatles.
whoops…I’m not trippin’ either…(so, I’m not jealous)
that was to have said “she COULD have been there for them the way Whitaker was”…
I think Astrid could have taken her early style and refined it to suit them…
besides, she’s a woman…and, “she’s Exie”
Cheers Quay! What a difference a subjunctive makes.
I wish I could claim some inspirational source had overtaken my literary skills…but, I can’t…
(you know, cooooooooooool!!!)
All I can think of is -did someone tell them to touch toes?
