That’s Tom Scott in the middle. I shared my bottle of Southern Comfort with Tom & his crew, the L.A. Express, after the evening show in Montreal on Dec.8 1974.
During the show, my girlfriend & I were in the third row center partying among a large group of very nice but quiet Indian folks. I guess we got noticed (hopefully we didn’t disturb too much) and when we stepped up to the stage after the show, one of the horn players asked to take a swig of Southern. The bottle went around the other musicians, we chatted a bit and then we moved on to continue the party elsewhere.
When I think back at that night, I regret not pushing my luck and asking if we could party backstage with everyone. They probably would have said yes, everything was very loose back in those days. Who knows, I might even have briefly met George.
But what’s done is done. What I did do that night was spend two hours seeing and listening to my musical hero from up close. Plenty of eye contact and mutual thumbs-ups are memories I’ll never forget.
God bless you GH, we miss you.
what a great story! thanks for sharing
I met Billy Preston a few years ago at Beatlefest. He was a great guy. I loved his music. He was suppose to do a concert that night, but became ill, and had to live. Bless his heart!! It was shortly after that that he had passed away. I was so sad that I didn’t get to see him perform because I was such a fan of his!!
Sorry==that was supposed to say “had to LEAVE…” Not Live!!!!!
