    lifesize poster…
    interesting formation
George left Paul right John center
(or is George center and John on left?)
    details details details
was this going in the newspaper?(cropping marks)

Looks to me like George on left, John in center, Paul on right. Maybe the image is flipped? In any case, the band looks about a million times cooler than the people dancing! They were always ahead of their time…

  3. Jim says:

I wonder how many venues they played that featured glittering disco balls.

Hi Cara. I looked at it closer in Photoshop and it’s not flipped. The EXIT sign reads the right way. It’s definitely Paul standing on the right (of the photo) and those can only be George’s ears on the left! It’s hard to imagine they ever played a venue like that isn’t it? If only those people knew what they were witnessing.

I once had a long talk with Sam Leach at the Grapes pub in matthew st a few years ago in liverpool, Sam was the man who booked that aldershot “gig” the fact of the matter was that sam had a nightmare really , he was good buddies with the beatles and acted as others has as an agent to book them, he was actually hoping to get them to have him as their manager but it all went silly, he placed an add in the aldershot news for the show and ther venue but it didnt go in!So they all turned up after a long trip and found that the add hadnt happened, in the end thye were faced with either playing or not and decided to honur the contract to play that night, despite hardly anyone knowing about it, ok they werent famous as yet but would have attracetd enough to get the dancehall going for sure, Sam told me he went to the local pub/bottle shop and got a craite of brown ale and packets of crisps for the lads, that was the best he could do, there are a few pictures of them all knocking back the brown ale and john and george doing a dance together on the dancefloor, it was obvious they were pretty cheesed off about the gig but didnt let it spoil there fun, that said it ended Sams chnace to manage the boys after that and he became another casualty of their future success, thye were actually playing aldershot because they were hanging in down london for while trying to get a deal and make more contacts. Sam Leach is great guy and still laughed about it all but he knew you couldnt stuff up with those lads, it all halped in the end to bring Brian Epstein in I think and make history the way they did.. Sam played his part!good on him!

Wow, it was all so innocent and exciting. It was all about to start. Who would have imagined at this stage what would happen.

  7. Julia says:

John and George dancing…awwww, i want to see that photo!

  8. John Medd says:

The guy jitterbugging(?) on the left (nearest to George’s ears) is my uncle Raymond. He has a copy of this photograph hanging in his snooker room at home. Apparently the girl he was with that night shouldn’t have been there and this photo caused her personal grief. A lot of personal grief.

  9. Cara says:

@James and @John Medd… thanks for the great stories! @nick_L… Thanks for checking it out. So weird to see Paul on that end of the stage. Omg, I’d love to see the photos James is talking about… maybe Uncle Raymond has them? 😉
