“John, he was a good lad. There’s a part of him that was saintly, that aspired to the truth and to great things. And there’s a part of him that was just, you know, a loony! Like the rest of us. But he was honest; if he was a bastard one day, he’d say, ‘I’m sorry, I was wrong.’ And just deflate any negative feeling you had about him. We’d been close and distant. The fact that he was living in New York meant I never saw him for a long time. The autumn of ‘78 I went up to the Dakota, I think that was the last time. But he’d send postcards – like the Rutles. So when I’m in England, I can still think of John in New York. I never saw him anyway, he could still be there for all I know. You know what I mean? They can kill the man, but they can’t kill the spirit. They can’t kill what he meant to you.” – George Harrison, Musician, March 1990
Sometimes in my photo searches i come across a web page that for one reason or another stops me in my tracks, the
George site linked below is one such site. I don’t know if the web master visits here, but i want to send a shout out too them for maintaining one of the best sites i’ve found. It is so loving and detailed, with many, many George interviews and quotes, as well as a lot of stories from Georges friends. Click on the link below, be prepared to lose a few hours reading through it.
Q: ‘You’ve spent the last few years focusing on your family life while recording music at home just for the joy of it.’
GH: ‘I’ve spent too long in the garden. (soft laugh) So the concept of going on a TV show with Jerry Springer or whatever his name is, to try to talk about something while everybody’s punching each other – that to me is pathetic. To try and sell something like that, you sell your soul!
That’s why I just feel I can’t go back into the side of the industry that’s become this way. And that’s why I’m just going along with that girl from ABBA [Agnetha Faltskog] who chat-show people criticize for being off on an island these days and out of touch with the music business. One fellow on television actually said, ‘She had a beautiful ass but now she is an ass!’ It was so nasty, can you believe it? But she’s probably much more spiritual, much more content, and just a better person to her family and friends.
