Just grabbed this screen capture from the recent concert at Radio city music hall, i thought it was kind of interesting to see the 2009 Paul singing in front of a giant photo of Paul and Jane in 1968.

GEORGE’S STAR OF FAME:

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Watching the news footage and youtube clips and looking at these photo’s from Georges Hollywood star of fame it really made me think how we all hear about squabbles in the press between the various Beatles and we’ve all heard the comments between them during the bad times, but hearing Eric Idle speak so personally about the closeness between Paul and George made me realise that away from the lights and screams they really were those two fourteen year old kids on the bus who ended experiencing something that only a handful of people on this planet could ever comprehend, i guess it’s true like they say in Anthology that because there were four of them they could look out for each other where as Elvis only had himself,

Watching Eric Idles comments about George dying in Paul’s home, there are many other things littered through the various youtube clips of the event that are quite insightful, John Hammel is visible in just about all the footage and it’s interesting to watch his knowing nods and smiles as they talk of events and happenings, at one point you can see him lean in smiling to Nancy and nodding to her when i think she probably asked ‘Did he really do that?’ when Eric mentions George passing away in Pauls home and how good Paul was to George during the long time he was dying you can see Olivia and Dhani are profoundly .. ‘grateful’ probably isnt the right word, but you can see how much this meant to them, it’s interesting to see Dhani turn and gaze at Paul during this and then break into a smile at Paul when Eric joked about John Cleese.

Just after the star was unveiled in a candid moment you can see and almost hear Olivia lean over to Paul and say something and thank him, and then emphasise the thank’s, Paul then leans over and rubs her arm.

I think this event strangely gave us an insight into the real world of the Beatle family much more than something ‘glam’ like the ‘Love’ premiere ever could where everyone is ‘on’.

If nothing else maybe this will lay to rest the naysayer’s and those who thought they knew the truth and always put a negative spin on The Beatles friendships, when in truth deep down they probably did care for each other, Paul and George, and Ringo and John were really close, even literally right to the end ..

Dont forget one of John’s last comments on the Beatles from late in 1980, and i wish they had used this to end the Anthology instead of the bitter and sour sound bite from 1970 ‘They were just a band, it doesn’t really matter’ sorry John, it did matter and it does matter as you yourself admitted in 1980 ..

“But don’t get me wrong. I still love those guys. The Beatles are over, but John, Paul, George and Ringo go on.”
