I always love seeing photos of John from 1980. I still get frustrated that I came so close to meeting him but it never happened.
I’ve always wondered….how did he see in the dark with these glasses on? They are prescription glass right? He never took them off it seems.
I may be in the minority, but John was SOOOOO handsome to me in 1980 (ok, most every year). There is just something so classic and urbane about his look. I love it. Love this pic. Yoko has great bone structure. They just look cool.

I would venture this is one of a series of photos taken that day by my friend Michel. He also took a few with J&Y and David Geffen. Then he handed his Nikon to someone (Geffen I believe) and got a pic of himself with the cool couple. Ive seen this picture afew time now and cant figuree out why it looks like a painting or something, yoko looks real enough but John looks unreal, I only mean in terms of the image quality, the picture is a great one still but why does it look unreal?
I think it look like a painting because of the high ISO that the photographer used to take this picture. It was indoors and not too much light, so a high ISO has to be used and that creates noise.
I agree with “A different Jennifer” – John was hot in 1980 along with every other year.This is a nice picture.
John, 1980 …. excited … content …happy … handsome. That is how I will always remember him. By all accounts from interviews at the time, he had found peace with himself, his music, his marriage & fatherhood. He was looking ahead with great optimism and the demons of the past were replaced by warm memories. It is comforting to know this yet makes me miss him all the more for what might have been.

I adore John in 1980 (and every other year as well really), and his refreshing outlook on everything and the warmth he radiated will always be the foremost things in my mind when I remember his last year. Aside from the beautiful music and how he was looking so GQ all the time of course.
I adore John in 1980 as well. Everything seemed so perfect, his fatherhood, his comeback… makes me miss him even more.
I was in liverpool a few days back and popped into the white star pub where they used to have a few beers on occassions as they did at the grapes, the place is so little and has allsorts of thinbgs you can easily bump into, I wonder how John got on in those days after a few beers and no glasses on, Im sure he usually had them on but I can imagine him banging into everything!yeah he liked his shaded glasses, Im sure he could see everything!
