never seen this one before. beyond lovely.
Photo by Ethan Russell. He took some beautiful shots of John & Yoko at Montagu Square. One that I love is John sitting on the floor cradling his knee as he listens to the White album. Its beauty is its simplicity ….
maharishi damage on the mend…
Remember the book Ethan Russell came out with back in the day, with the 1969 and Double Fantasy photos. He described John as a burn out in the fall of 1980.
Loved the photos hated the text
Alex …. I never understood that description of John. Left me totally confused seeing that John appeared to be vibrant & excited to be back in the studio. He was funny, insightful and inspiring in the 1980 interviews as well.
Yes Ishie, that was my point. I know John was known to put a spin on things to paint the way he wanted things to come across, but a burnout is one thing I never thought him as even after everything he went through. Your description of him in fall of 1980 is very accurate it seems anyway, it is not that I actually knew first hand but that was the impression that came across. Autumn of 1980 it seemed he was all over and very optimistic about everything . As 24 yr old guy at the time John gave a lot of hope for 1981 for everything but then life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans.
Alex, how right you are. John was all about hope. As John said in one of his last interviews, he survived the 70’s and was excited about the future He/they were starting over & believed in the power of positive thought, remember ‘wish fulfillment?’
As you mentioned, he & Yoko would spin their tale every now & again but that’s their right … they are the story!
1980 albeit so very brief, brought John back to the place where we were first introduced to him (as singer, songwriter, musician) …. his words, his message were his gifts.
i agree with you, alex and ishie!
